| Having Accidents in Our Bed!! Acorn is over a year old and completely house broken...we thought. Whenever we are home she never has an accident, and when we leave her out of the crate when we run errands she never has an accident! Just recently shes started to pee when we leave her out, no matter if we take her out to pee before we leave the house! And she does it right on top of our bed! I can't imagine she has to pee, since she holds her bladder for much longer when I'm at work. I'm just wondering why she is choosing our bed of all places! She never peed there before, it just started recently. It's extremely frustrating because we have to wash EVERYTHING and I still don't feel like we're getting the smell out. Any advice? Could this be her way of showing us she's mad that we're leaving her? Any idea why it would be on our bed?! Thanks.

| sounds like she is either saying that or showing anxiety or dominance. Can you close your bedroom door when you leave her home so she cant get near it? See if she does it somewhere else or holds it? |

| She likes laying on the bed because the sun shines through on it. Her crate is also in there, it's her safe spot! But I like the idea of trying to close the door. She does deal with a lot of anxiety so I can see that being an issue!

| That was my first guess...separation anxiety!! I don't think she's mad. I think she's afraid that her pack is lost and is peeing bc she's nervous. |

I watched a tv programme 'over here' a few weeks ago about just this...what our dogs do when their owners are away from home. Quite a few of them pooped or peed almost immediately, even though all of them had been out to potty only minutes previously. The nightmare of this is that it's on the bed...is it worth covering it with some sort of rubber-backed sheeting and tucking it firmly in? Must be awful keep having to wash everything! | I wanted to also mention the possibility of a UTI. Sometimes if a dog that's completely housebroken does this, it's because they've got an infection. Just something to keep in mind and maybe do a little research on to see if you think it might be that. My friends cat was peeing on the bed and it was a UTI...and just recently, my friends house broken dog started urinating when it was startled awake...and then he started licking his "boy parts" excessively until they were raw. Come to find out, he had a UTI. UTI's are fairly common in dogs and cats and you'll need to take your pup in to get tested if you think she has it. If it's confirmed, they will put on antibiotics as treatment. For chronic UTI's, a change in food is often recommended. Science Diet U/D is an example of one of those prescription foods Last edited by theporkieyorkie; 11-18-2013 at 06:40 AM. |
