| Teaching puppy to catch treats? I've been trying to teach Lola (6 months) to catch treats because of a game at a local pet store, but it isn't going well. I've tries using cut up soft buddy biscuits, chicken, and 1/4 of a cheez-itz. I've tried dropping the treat, tossing it, and doing the tossing motion a few times and then tossing it. Her focus is on the food, but she doesn't get that she's supposed to catch it. She just lets it hit her or fall by her feet. I tossed a piece about 5 times and didn't let her eat it, did it twice over 2 sessions, and she just got frustrated. I gave her the treat for sitting when I was done. My cousin's dogs catch treats, she didn't teach them, they just do it. Maybe I should try having her watch the other dogs? |

| Luma does it. It has to be a size that is large enough to be visible while moving through the air but not so large they can't easily catch it in their tiny mouths. I have her sit first, hold the treat and show it to her, tell her "ready catch?" And make the motion like I'm starting to throw it. That way she is paying attention. Then I throw it and say catch. If she catches it I say good catch!!!! If she misses I tell her to leave it so she doesn't get the treat until she catches it. I started with a very short distance between the two of us and now she can catch it from about 7 ft away.

| I've been trying to teach Joel but no luck. I thought if the treats fall on his face enough times he would catch on but nope |

| Ruby- I have googled it, that's where I got the methods I tried. Caremeow- Thanks I'll try doing it the way you do. Maybe I need bigger treats. Joel- that's basically what's happening with Lola lol. |
