| Just can't get the snapping to stop when he sleeps at our feet Hi Everyone I have a little problem with Wallee when he sleeps near our feet when we sit on the couch. I have tried almost everything. He loves to sleep with his back against the couch near our feet. If you don't look down and your feet touch him he goes crazy snapping. Even if you have barely touched him. I know he is startled and that's why he does this but even when you speak to him and try to move your feet away, he still goes after your feet snapping and growling. I just don't know what to do to break him of this habbit. When we have friends over I am constantly waking him up to move away from where ppl are sitting so they don't accidently "touch" him if they go to get up from the couch. He also does this if he lays down to nap with you and you move and touch him. Thankfully he sleeps in his own bed at night or neither of us would sleep. Any ideas on how to stop this would be greatly appreciated. |

| Winnie does this as well. To be honest I have just gotten use to it. She sleeps with me and normally she is fine if she does it I just give her a look, she knows its wrong after she kinda snaps out of the shocked stage.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | On occasion Quincy will do the same but without the snapping. He just growls and does this drawn out gargle sound. It is more of a startling reaction from being woke up so suddenly. Evidently he doesn't' like having his beauty sleep disturbed. Maybe you could try to get him to sleep in his bed more often and then once he gets use to that than you can put the bed near your feet where he likes to lay. That way he is in a safe place and you are more likely to be more aware of his presence.

| I know what you mean. Joel almost does that but instead of nipping he jumps from his sleep and tries to find something to protect when someone comes in the room, lol. It's hard to scold him about it when he jumps from his sleep But he's getting better since I tell him to stop and go back to bed and he barely does it anymore. |

| We had a Yorkie at one time that also did the same thing. I really cannot give any advice. We either chose to wear socks to protect our toes or put her in the crate.

| I know everyone will scream at me, but I would give his but a little swat while giving him a loud NO, if he does it a second time, repeat and put him in a time out. Of course when I say swat I don't mean any thing that hurts, just enough to startle him and make him take notice, you could even just hit the area on the bottom of the couch close to him, perhaps use a rolled up newspaper. This is how dogs react if another dog is trying to assert themselves. Often you hear people say after they bring a puppy home that is starting to bite the older animals that it takes a few times and then finally their older animals have enough and swat and nip at the puppy hard enough to make the puppy think twice about doing it again. LOL I think where that expression nip it in the bud comes from Of course I am no dog whisper but I do believe and have read this as well that we need to think more like a dog and their natural behaviors when trying to discipline bad behavior. It's not like we can sit there and explain that this is bad and why it is bad and so forth. Good luck because sounds like you have to watch TV on pins and needles

| my last yorkie was bent of ball of anger, and walks with him were a challenge when encountering other dogs which happened often. I started carrying a rolled up piece of newspaper and would hit it against my leg if he started with his crazy pulling and barking, he actually stopped him from barking and going nuts, eventually he would look up at me just before he wanted to start, he was checking to see if I had the newspaper. I never even tapped him with it, just my leg, but I think he was afraid I would
