| first time punishment for her lexi got into trouble last nite... from the minute i went to sleep.. bark, bark bark bark bark, she would not stop.. she looks out the window, moves the blinds herself and barks at the cat across the street that is not even there...she saw it once or twice outside... shes nuts.. anyway i yelled at her from bed QUIET, QUIET, im getting the SWATER. Sshe stopped for a minute or two then started again.. after 3 hrs of it, got up 3 times in the meantime.. i told her, i had enough, bad girl and locked her up in the hall way like i do everyday for work...she also has her room to go into. well, she barked and barked.. i wanted to cry myself... after awhile i let her out and she was jumping all over me as if i had left her for ever..i felt. bad. did i do it right? well she did stop after her punishment, but i got no sleep..

| That's not it. I just now saw this! So, I suppose you have red, swollen eyes today, huh? You had to do something. I don't see anything wrong with that. I have been lucky, I guess. I've never had that happen. Knock on wood! One night, not too long ago, I woke up and Kacee was walking around on the floor growling very softly. I knew she was just hearing the furnace getting ready to come on or something like that. I just rolled over and went back to sleep. She hasn't done it anymore. Muffin never did things like that, but Kacee is more skitterish than she ever was.

| Good luck tonight! You did fine, no harm was done. I like your form of "punishment" a lot better than the folks who say they spank their dog. Play major fetch with Lexi an hour or so before bedtime. Get her all tuckered out so she will sleep and not be active when you are trying to get some rest. "A tired pup is a good pup"! Sleep well, my friend!

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Patti had my idea too and it really worked for me ... is there a way to block off that window ? our cockers would lay in wait for anything that moved out there and even things that didn't move - if a leave blew across the yard - instant yakking - I finally blocked it so they had their window time in the day ...and no window at night - |

| The first two nights we had Baxter, I crated him and he cryed all night. I dont like my pups running around all night. On the third night, we put the crate by my side of the bed, and he went to sleep, slept all night every night since then and starts to make a little noise in the morning to let me know he has to go. He is 12 weeks old and is not wetting in his bed or poohing for the last week. He just didnt like to be alone. So I guess thats what I do. I have crated all my dogs when I am gone and my two mini wieners will got to thier crate, just because they feel secure there. I think Baxter will too. He has an x pen for days and only gets crated at night or when we leave. This way he doesnt think it is punishment. Hope this helps |

| My little guy does the same thing with one of our cats. If he even gets a glimpse of her....he is barking his head off. Which makes her hiss at him....which makes him bark even more. We have to make sure they are in seperate rooms at night. I scolded him and told him BAD BOY...which worked for a few minutes...then he was out of there to search for the cat. Luckily he didn't find her. The weird thing is he gets along fine with our other cat and they even sort of play together....until he gets too hyper then she runs off. Good luck....let me know if you find something that works! |

Well tire her out before bed. play or take her for a long long walk. Block the view to outside world Try a kennel with her in it on the bed with you so she is close. Try quiet words the louder you bark the louder they bark. Try yawning it at her it is what is called a calming signal and it will help calm you. Start on a weekend when sleep is not so important or a day off. Pull out the treats and click and treat the second between the barks and reward the calm. The more you do it the more she should chill out. Takes good timing but you can do it. Check out Clicker solutions to get a better idea of how to click and treat. Joy | |

| Awwww, you can't mean that the same sweet little face in your avatar did all this barking?! What a cutie!!!!! I am no expert on training but sounds like if she stopped, it worked. Lily also occasionaly thinks things are happening outside without her. Generally after a scolding or two she gives up and goes back to bed. Hope she decides to let you sleep from now on.

| Doesn't sound to me like you were being too strict or mean at all. My sympathy goes to you --not your sweet barking little pup. Given the right night, three hours of barking could drive me up the wall. I get jumped on every time I suggest this - but you are desperate - Try spraying something in her mouth that she absolutely hates the taste of when she starts on one of those barking sprees. I met a person that used Binaca mouth spray and it worked wonderfully. The dog just did not like the taste of it and it really helped keep the dog from barking. Binaca is something that we use to keep our breath fresh and wonderful - and it does have a fresh little kick to it. You know it is perfectly harmless - and with luck your dog won't like it at all. Or perhaps you can come up with something different that your dog doesn't like the taste of. PS: I learned about this at my vet's office in the waiting room. The person who told me about it was told to do it by her dog trainer. The vet overheard the conversation and said, "I'll have to remember that one - sounds like something that might work to me." Again - you certainly have my sympathy. It's time to bring the big guns out!!!! It's better than you turning into a raging maniac trying to get some sleep - right? That could be bad! Carol Jean |

| I'd try putting her in a crate at night and covering it up with a big towel. Keep her by your bed. Poor Baby, gotta' bark!
