| I am tired of being tired! Any suggestions on getting Bentley to sleep later than 4:30 a.m. will be very helpful. I have heard that they have the ability by 6 months old to hold pee for 8 hours. Bentley only seems to to be able to for 5 hours or so. We keep him in a crate in the bedroom, and he does sleep for 5 or 6 hours but once he is up he is up. Help |

| We did try putting a towel over his crate in the beginning but for some reason we stopped. I guess it's worth a try again. |

| I keep Hannah in a large crate and place a comforter over it not only to keep it dark but to also keep her warm. She's in bed at 9:00pm and up at 7:30am. She has potty pads just in case. I also make sure to spend time with her 30 min. before bed time just to tire her out. She's used to her nite nite schedule... The tech at my vets office recommended I put a cover over her crate and it's worked so far.

| Awwww shucks! I do understand being tired with a puppy!! LOL Princess Sophie goes to bed about 10/11 pm and wakes up around 4:30am. I or my DH take her to go potty then we all go back to sleep for a few more hours. Been doing this for a while. I have discovered that if I just praise her for using the potty pad instead of giving her a treat, she can go right back to sleep as opposed to thinking it's time to play. LOL Don't know if this helps!! Good luck!!

| Oh and Hannah will be 6 mos. old on Thursday, June 6th. Good Luck with your baby!!! Does Bently like to play with toys? Maybe a toy in his crate?? Is he waking so eary to go potty or could he be hungry? Potty pads, kibble and toys have helped me alot..at least at night. Still working on her during the day with scheduled play time and scheduled alone time in her crate especially when I'm home because she wants to be out with all of our other non-yorkie dogs.

| When Joel was a baby I had a lot of toys in his crate and when he woke up he would quietly play until I got up, most the time hehe I think when Bently gets older he'll get better at it Joel is good about sleeping in except when he decides he has to wake me at 5am to get his deer antler off the shelf |

YT 2000 Club Member | Puppies are like babies......some sleep better than others! I would suggest when he wants to get up at 4:30 to just take him potty, no treats or toys or interaction except a good boy after he potties. Then take him back to bed or kennel and tell him to lay down, turn light off and ignore. If you encourage the behavior, then he will think it is time to get up & play. A blanket over the crate is a great que to let him know that he is still expected to go back to sleep! Good luck!

| Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I tried taking his food and water away 2 hours before he normally would go to bed. I ended up in the guest room so he was in the bedroom with daddy. I woke up at 6:30 and they were outside, daddy said that he tried to get him up a few times, but he shhh'd him and ended up sleeping til 6:30. Hopefully we can continue this way and the bags under my eyes will go away soon. |

| I get up at 5 and Huey always wakes me up between 3:30 and 4 to go out. If I ignore him, he will pee on the dresser corner . I really think he gets up then because his daddy comes home from work between 3:30 & 4, but I hate being awakened an hour before I have to get up. I have found no answer to this. I have resigned myself to letting him out at that time. Since it is close to daddy time, many times I will open the deck door and go back to bed. I figure if the air runs more for an hour, my sleep is worth it, and he is confined to the deck or he can come back in. Whatever.

| Here are some thoughts. Try letting him sleep in bed with you or pulled up to the bed in a hardshell airline carrier placed in a chair with the wire front door can help a pack animal like a dog, who genetically is programmed for sleeping in closer proximity to his packmates as they do when left to their natural devices or in the wild. Pack animals usually pack, touch or sleep closely when they can so now that he's growing into his full canine nature, he's probably sensing a need he'd like fulfilled as he becomes fonder and fonder of his human pack. As puppies just separated from their original pack, we expect them to howl and squeal for their mommy and littermates which most do but as dogs grow older, some quietly can accept their solitary sleeping quarters and others can't. They want to pack at night and feel more secure sleeping very near or touching one of the pack. Night noises and early morning noises and scents tend to not bother packing animals as much as those that sleep alone. Lone sleepers tend to be more sentient by virtue of their species which is programmed to live as a pack 24/7. Is your little one eating or drinking a lot close to bedtime? If so, you might try decreasing his activities near bedtime so he won't be as thirsty or hungry near bedtime to prolong the time before he needs to eliminate. Also, there could be a UTI or bowel problem developing and his early, early urges due to a medical condition you. A vet check could be in order if he's seeming exceptionally frantic to get outside to relieve himself.

| Jess sleeps in a large dog crate in my daughters room. It has a bed and a pee pad in it. They go to bed at 9 and wake up around 6-6:30. Sometimes she holds it till she goes downstairs but many times she doesn't. She just goes on the pad and then goes back to sleep. My daughter brings th pad downstairs and tosses it in the garage trash. No one is woken up and everyone is happy. She is even comfy in there until after 7 on weekends.. |

| We have same issue, but just not as early Dexter also is not the one to sleep in, unlike his mommy We don't crate him at night, he sleeps in his own bed, but then jumps up on our bed in the morning and sleeps a bit more there. However still wake up early. What I started doing is closing our blinds to make the room dark, and I noticed that he sleeps in later and actually I get to wake up with alarm and not earlier. Good luck! |

| My suggestion is to make it your goal to tire Bentley out in the evening. I mean REALLY tire him out. Find out what gets his motor running. For my Bentley it is fetch. That boy is a natural fetcher. Retrieved the first time I threw a toy. Our standard routine is fetch in the evening until he just lays down and plays with his toy. My little guy, 7 months on the 27th sleeps the night. Usually around a good 12 hours. Unless someone makes a ton of noise early in the morning in the parking lot. Then he's up and barking out the window. But that's an entirely different issue. lol Is it possible to let him sleep with you? Unless he's riled up if he wakes early a little snuggle and belly rub usually puts him right back to sleep

| Thanks for all the good ideas, as of today he has been sleeping til 6 or a little later which I can deal with. We have been taking away his food and water 2 hrs prior to bed and that seems to be helping. As far as him sleeping with me or us. My bed partner is not ready to let him do that yet, and it is his bed. If it were my bed I probably would have caved by now. |
