| Yorkie going in the house (NOT a puppy) If this is long, my apoligies. I am new to the board and need to vent. My yorkie is approaching 5 years old. We took her in from another family who didn't take very good care of her when she was around 6 months. They said she was house trained but she wasn't. In that house we had a fenced in yard, and we thought she would be a great companion for our boarder collie. We were able to train her to go outside with the help of crate training (first we used our bc's old crate that was this canvas material, but she tore that up. We got her a smaller hard crate that she couldn't get out of, which worked well). She had a couple of accidents in that house, but it wasn't bad. Eventually we could leave her out during the day with the BC & they have been great companions. The big problems seemed to start when we moved into our townhome. We don't have a big yard anymore, but sufficient grass area outside (end unit). She goes out at the same times every day, and a walk once or twice a day. Sometimes she will go no problem. Other times, she refuses (she will refuse to move, and give me a stubborn look). Sometimes she will go a month without going in the house, but, then she always goes back to peeing on the same area rug, sometimes multiple times a day. When she regressed, she went back in the crate during the day. We have finally had to throw out that rug-especially since my BC started marking spots right next to hers. We got her a bigger crate so she has more room, and now she is always in the crate when we are not around. I really loved being able to let her be out during the day & night with the BC, since they love eachother. But, I think being in the crate when we can't be there is just the way it will have to be. We are waiting to close on a new home, which has a yard & we are hoping to be able to finish the fence that is mostly there. Hopefully having a fenced in yard will make it stop. I've become mental about it-if she's left out I find myself checking every rug, the couch (because she has gone there, too), everywhere. It's driven me nuts. Thanks for listening. I don't know if anyone else has a 5 year old yorkie who acts like this. |

| (raises hand) Hi my name is Deanna and I have a Yorkie that pees everywhere too! HaHa First welcome to YT!! Hopefully you can share some pics of your Yorkie and BC!! Also what are their names? Well I have a boy so it is a little different. Unlike you I have a lovely yard- he even has his own special dog run that connects to the doggy door where he is protected from hawks, owls and coyotes! I also have multiple pee pads around the house, and he will still sneak into the bathroom and extra bedroom and pee and or poop! I lock him in our room ( while I’m at work) which has his crate on the floor left open, he is able to go up on the bed too. I leave a pee pad in there because I don’t expect him to hold it and he will still pee RIGHT NEXT TO THE PAD! I mean come on!! LOL So knowing what I know and have experienced.. can you put a pee pad in the crate she is in? Or lock both the dogs up in a room, or block off a section of the house and add a pee pad. Maybe she just has a hard time holding her pee? Yorkie’s do have really small bladders so I can understand her going while her family is away. Being that I have a doggy door AND pee pads around the house, I have noticed Peanut doesn't have accidents “as much” so maybe she just needs some pee pads around the house??

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Have you tried pee pads? Maybe by housebroken, she meant she was trained to use pads; that's what many of us here mean. Pee pads can be a great convenience, especially if you don't have a fenced yard where you can closely supervise. I still allow the boys to go outside and on walks, but they use pee pads at other times. Welcome to YT and it's so kind of you to give a home to this little one, I agree, Yorkies can be sooooo stubborn, but that's also part of their charm.

| Yes, I completely forgot to mention that I have tried pee pads. She just won't go on them & most of the time I would find them torn up. I have kept one in her bigger crate, but she hasn't gone in there at all. So I know she can hold it, since she won't go in there. Funny you mention your yorkie going NEXT to the pee pad...my sister has a 2 pounder tea cup yorkie, who uses the pee pads. She said she will frequently go right next to the pad as well. What's up with that? haha |

| try cloth ones. You can buy them at walmart in the baby section. I started with those and eventually moved to paper. Jess is pretty great although when not home she is always in her large crate. (she will eat anything on the floor and i have 4 kids so free roam is a nono) I am a stickler about not peeing on my rugs or floor. Its just not happening. I am home during the day so she gets to be where ever I am . I just put her in her crate every few hours and tell her to pee. She does and gets a treat and let out. She doesnt she stays in till she goes. I was so proud the other day as she got the runs and so I was really watching her. She darted off and I chased her to see where she went as unfort the house we bought has tons of white rugs. Turns out she ran to her crate to poop! You would have thought I won the lottery..it just takes time... |

| My Teddy can be very good, and he knows how to use his potty pads....but he prefers peeing on the bathroom floor. I have no idea whey....it just seems to be his preference. He is very smart because he never lets me see him doing it! |
