| Help! Hi new member to this forum! My name is Crystal, and me and my boyfriend just got a yorkie puppy a month ago! He is gonna be 3 month next week. He is an awesome little guy, but we're having some troubles with potty training. We weren't having any luck with the potty pad, so we decided to try and bring him outside to potty. He was doing okay going outside and actually started to let us know when he needed to go out. But now hes starting to pee on the floor again. We do encourage him to use the potty pad also but he just pees anywhere he wants now... any other suggestions on potty training or is he just too young to even grasp the concept on not peeing on the floor?

I think it's going to take consistency and a LOT of patience on your part. Since he is regressing, just start back at square one - as if you never trained him to go out or on a pad before. It's really easy to get frustrated so don't let that affect how you interact with him. Trust me - you will get frustrated. But just walk away, breathe, and start again with him. Praise praise praise for the correct act and hang in there. Mandie will be a year old next week and she still has "accidents". Patience is something I never had before but have grown Oh, and welcome to YT!

| Yorkie Talk has hundreds of posts on potty training. You can check out. Your puppy has too much freedom at this young age. I don't think they are really ready to potty train until 12 weeks old. Everything before that is PRE-TRAINING. Please think about a exercise pen or small gated area for your pup. The small area should contain his crate with the door secured open. So he can come and go at will. Toys, safe chew items like a Nyla Bone or Kong, and the pee pad. This is the most important thing if your puppy is not with you he should be in this safe gated area. We encourage Umbilical Tethering that is where you hook a leash to you and to the puppy's harness (never hook a leash to his collar) For the first six weeks of potty training the pup is hooked to you or in the safe area. No freedom to roam. The idea is Prevention not correction. The Rule at our house is: Potty in the right place and Yorkies get treats. Julia Rose is six months old and washable pee-pad trained. There is a small end table a few feet away from the pee-pad, it is convenient for storing clean pee-pads, wet wipes and a treat jar. Julia loves her treats some times she fake pees to get a treat. On a few rare occasions she has slightly missed the pad. No scolding, just no getting a treat if she misses the pee-pad. A few days ago, Julia did her business then ran to the treat jar. In her rush to get a treat she was not quite done. When a little poo ball fell off her butt on the floor she stopped and looked at it, then up to the treat jar. I could see on her trying to work the problem out. She ran back to the pee-pad and grabbed it on the corner with her teeth, she drug the pee-pad to the poo ball and covered it up. Then she ran to the treat jar for her reward.. Julia Rose got two treats. One for going on the pee-pad and one for making us laugh like two silly kids.

That is too cute!! now we do reward with treats, but I don't know if he actually gets why he's getting the treat. He has been doing better, less accidents, so I sure hope it continues to get better!

| Oh boy If I had a dollar for every person with a Yorkie training problem If someone hasn't told you ..... here it is for the first but not the last time Yorkies are hard to train It's still a little eary to expect being trained at this age but you'll wanna get the preliminaries down now so there won't be any slowdowns the secret is timing and access A young pup should never have full access if you want them with you outside of their designated area your eyes need to be on them at all times Take him out at specific times during the day ... so he can get used to feeling the times when it is ok to eliminate Little pups don't have good bladder and rectal control just like babies but males will tend to mark with urine once they get older so before he gets old enuf to do this get him usued to going outside
