| Need Help! - Potty Training (Indoors) for Adult hey all, we've just gotten ourselves a Toy Yorkie, Coco Puff. probably the most adorable dog we've ever seen, we bought it over from the ex owner just last week. this also means that Coco Puff will have to be re-trained indoors. She's just over a year old now. we've been keeping vigil on Coco over the last few days, but assuming that she is still trying to get used to her new environment, she's been pooping and peeing at various places in the house. she's so quick when she's gotta go, especially when i'm brushing my teeth, that the moment, she's out of sight for a few minutes, she has relieved herself. our question is how long do we expect to be able to successfully potty train our little Yorkie? how can we expedite the process? 2nd question: after feeding time, how long can we expect Coco to "go"? we thought it was 15-30 minutes. but it has been various times that she chose to go. last night, she decided to poop about 5 hours after dinner. we got worried for a while, kept keeping her at the designated "go" zone for a while but she didn't wanna go. 3rd question: do they pee and poop usually at the same place? Coco has done so separately and we're kinda puzzled. any advice would be much appreciated! |

| Mine are all trained to potty outside- So no help with indoor type training. I would treat her like a puppy. If you can't watch her confine her or tether her with a leash to you. Every time she potties were you want give her a treat and tell her what a good girl she is.

| thanks Mika! we probably will try although crating her will probably break our hearts. but i guess we'll have to do what we have to do. she probably will not have an "accident" in the crate yeah? since she has a meal and water there too. |

| I would only feed at set time- Not free feed. Works better for house training in my experience. If the crate is too big she will find a way to make her own bathroom area.

| indoor training i trained lily to go on a grass patch inside since she likes soft CARPET material to go on lol. when we first got her she would go everywhere in the house until i got a grass patch from petsmart and every time she went on the carpet i would say no in a stern voice and put her on the grass and say "go potty" eventually (about 2 weeks) she learned to use that instead of carpet. now i can say "go potty" and she instantly uses the bathroom on her designated grass spot. hope this helps. yes its kind of gross to clean the grass but i think its worth it especially since we live in an apartment. |

her crate is of ok size so it shouldn't be a problem. i've now tried to crate her if i were to go out for a couple of hours. breaks my heart but i'm trying not to encourage her to poop anywhere while on her own. hope i'm doing the right thing... | |

| i didnt know it either until i found it at the store. it works great! but we had to upgrade to a bigger one because she missed a lot cuz it was too small lol. she would just put her front paws on it and go and ended up getting on the carpet sometimes but once we got a bigger one it was fine. you could also go to a do-it-yourself store like home depot and get one. we tried the training pads and it was a bigger hassle than we thought...she would NOT go on it at all no matter what we tried. she wouldn't even acknowledge it was there. also, the crate works great too. lily will not go potty in her crate. if we are going to be away from the house for more than an hr we put her in it, she hates it and it breaks my heart too but it works. |

| Well if Jess wants to she will pee in her crate. She wont when she is in the puppy apartment but will in the smaller crate. I guess I have dirty girl. Shes crate confined for another 5 days for leg surgery so I dont get too upset. Problem is in the bigger crate she jumps around and thats a no no...so into the smaller crate she goes and out comes a pee pee...doesnt matter how long....she constantly smells like pee...even in the puppy apt. she goes and then walks back and stands in it, even though I change it a million times a day..ugh....5 days and counting..I imagine im somewhat starting from ground zero as to peeing outside the crate...one bridge at a time... |
