| She thinks its a game... So my little Mia who turns 4 months tomorrow! Has made up a game where she takes something she's not supposed to have and runs around like crazy with it. She runs away when I tell her to "drop it" or if I raise my voice. So now I've just been doing a more natural approach. I don't chase her, I act calm and quickly try and grab the item away from her when I get the chance. She's not mad that I take it, she just sits there looking all ashamed. But does anyone have advice on how to get her to listen to me?! Will she grow out of this rebellious stage?

| Just teach her the "Leave It!" command and she will readily drop it, back off and look to you, knowing she is going to get a treat and happy praise from you. She not too young to learn but won't get it down pat until she's been learning it for months. So work a lot at first on the leave it lesson and then after 2 mos. of frequent training, teach this at least 2 -3 times a week for about 2 - 3 minutes. Tibbe thinks the dropping part is the best thing in the world as he gets his mommy to smile really big, get up NO MATTER WHAT ELSE SHE IS DOING and go to get him a treat, give it to him and tell him what a goooooood boy he is and he gets a little tickle, scratch or pat and more big smiles. I taught him well so that he is just inured to dropping it - doesn't think twice.

| Joel used to love grabbing stuff and running, but I got him to LOVE to drop it to get a prize. He used to take things and go under the bed and now all I have to say is put it down and he drops it fast. Another thing I do is even when he has something he's aloud to have I tell him to put it down, that way I can give it right back, so later when he has something bad he'll be more willing to drop it. The other day he had something in his mouth but I couldn't see so I said put it down and I could tell he didn't want to so I said it again and he slowly lowered his head and gently put it down, then I saw it was a whole Ritz cracker lol no wonder he didn't want to lose it! So after I picked it up I actually gave it right back as his reward |

| I listened to Victoria Stillwell and taught Huey to "trade" for whatever he has in his mouth. Unfortunately, this smart bugger now searches the house for stuff he shouldn't have so he can trade for a treat. He's so bad that if you don't realize he has something, he will toss the item in the air and let it clatter on the hardwood, then pick it back up and run out of reach until he's gets his treat in trade...
