| Puppy Doing Great When He's Out, But Always Pees In His Xpen Gus (4 months) has been flawless the last 3 weeks whenever we have him out in the house. He goes to his pee-pad in the bathroom whenever he needs to go But when he is put in his xpen (when we go to work etc), he seems to make no attempt to hold it! We have been taping a peepad to the floor inside the pen and most of his pees are on that, but i suspect that might be luck/coincidence. Also, its not a particularly tidy solution solution; most days the pad has leaked onto the floor. We tried replacing the taped-to-the-floor pee-pad with a cutdown litter box with a pad in it for his xpen, but he won't go anywhere near it, and just pees on the floor where the other pad used to be. Also Gus will destroy any pee pad that isn't basically cemented to the ground If he were showing signs of holding it, we might remove the peepad from the xpen all together and just make sure he goes right before/after he is in there, but he is making no attempt to do that (even when he take him to his main pee pad regularly, he doesn't go then 5 mins later he has peed on the floor of his pen). Thoughts? ps - we were thinking a washable peepad to solve the tearing-up problem, but not sure if that will help with the main problem at all |

| I dont think that they can completely hold their bladder until they are 4-5 months of age. Our little Chewy is almost 6 months old and we keep him in an xpen during the day as well. I use the washable pee pads. He will hold his bladder all night in his crate, but the xpen is a different story. I think it gives them a little more room, so they feel that they can go potty while in it. I have been thru this with all my dogs and all I can say it it will take some time. Yorkies seem to be a little more stubborn to house train than some other dogs. I find that giving them treats as soon as they potty outside helps as well |
