| Cries when Im away and in shower HI there, This is my third post about a doggy i just adopted yesterday. Ive left her twice on her own for 2 hrs at a time. she howls and barks till no end. I assume it subsides some time after ive gone... my other yorkie is quiet and just relaxes until i return. how can i train my new baby that ill be back and there's no need to cry? Also she cries while im in the shower and she is in the bathroom with me. she can see me too! i have a glass shower. she just howls. ay yi yi! what to do?

| Do you know what the adopted baby's past was like? I'm sure she feels like her world has been turned upside down. She is with new owners and a new home. There are some great people on here that can give you some advice on what to do. Hopefully, she will adjust and it won't continue to be like this.

Max Main's Mamma Donating YT Member | First off, bless you for saving her life. You are awesome! My only advice is to ignore when she is being vocal and praise her when she is quiet. That is a hard one because you cant be there all of time and she has learned bad behavior from 86 other dogs. I guess you could try putting her in a crate with a stuffed animal that has a heart beat (its made for babies). Hope you get some better answers.

| My Kaji baby was like that. When I would get home from work or school, they would tell me how Kaji went on and on if he couldn't see me. It was weird since Kaji didn't want me to pick him up at all at the time or be near him. When I would shower, I would do as you did and take him in the bathroom with me. After a short time, Kaji learned to open the shower door. Scared they daylights out of me! One day I got tired of him being such a peeping Tom when I showered that I pulled him in. He didn't like that one bit. as far as the crying, it eventually stopped. He learned that I always come back, it just took time.

| Have you tried putting the radio on when you leave. Also it will take months before your adopted dog will feel comfortable and safe. It takes a good 3-5 months before they feel at home. They are in a new environment, schedule, routine etc. try to be patient. Give lots of love and attention and they will feel more secure in their new environment. They are like little children. |

YT 500 Club Member | Honey does the samething but it is only when I leave the house for some reason. When I walk out the house she just cries for some reason (my mom or someone would be in the house with her). If she stops crying she will just sit by the door or under the couch and wait for me to come back. I dont know why she does this. |

| Will most likely adjust.. when I first got George he would bark like little yaps when I went in the shower for the first week or so. Now he just guards and sits in the bathroom quietly lol.. |

| First of all..congrats and well done. Suggest getting the Cesar videos..dog whisperer....has a good segment on this! Separation anxiety can be tough. I have to remind myself constantly....calm, assertive with my Reagan. She does well with that. Don't react with all warm and wishy washy feelings in reaction to the whining. It just rewards that behavior. All cesar did was make himself visible to the dog for a time until she realized he was still there. Then he slipped out of site. Then reappeared at a distance when barking started. He calmly and silently let the dog get bored until it felt secure enough to move onto other things. The dog eventually went off to sleep believe it or not. Calm.....assertive......not oooo baby....everything's ok.......and he didn't give in to the barking and whining.
