| Peeing on shoes! Please any suggestions would be so greatly apreciated! Chewie has begun peeing on my shoes, at least twice a day on a few different pairs. I have no idea why he would just start this now... any thoughts? And Chewie is almost 9 months old.

| This sounds terribly rude (I promise I'm not being! ) but if you put your shoes away, in a cupboard or somewhere up higher - does he still pee where they would have been? When Harry was tiny, he had a thing about leather shoes - either biting the straps or attempting to lift his leg against one (One sharp 'NO' and he never did it again...). When we go to my mum's house, he's still always fascinated by her shoes - now he just tries desperately to lick them....I think he's addicted to her polish Funny little things! Sally + Harry x |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Most shoes have an odor that a dog can smell, he's can smell his humans and he is claiming them for his own, telling other dogs to stay away. If you aren't breeding him, now would be a good time to get him fixed, if you haven't already. Once the testosterone is fully running through his blood, marking is difficult to eliminate.

| Well, goodbye shoes! Good advice above. Block all access to your other shoes & neuter him, restrict his access to things with your strong scent on them. Probably need to watch him more closely & confine him to the crate when you can't watch him until he's over this phase of marking. Might need to refresh his housebreaking training for a month.

| Is he nuetered? My Joel is not nuetered and he will TRY to lift his leg on any new peoples shoes that are in the house, so I just watch him more. But I would just block him away from it |

| He is not neutered. We didn't neuter our other dog and we never ever had this problem. A friend came over last night and he proceeded to try and pee on everything of his! Embarrassing I feel like I am losing control of little Chewie's behaviour and obedience.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Each dog is different, but by and large, neutering will eliminate marking, if done soon enough. Your Chewie may make more testosterone than your other dog, and if you don't neuter you will probably have to deal with the marking. Wearing a bellyband is about the only thing that helps with marking. It's a wired in behavior and extreemly difficult to modify. Think of it like a sneeze, you can tell yourself you will never sneeze, but it just comes and you have little choice.

| My advice would be to neuter him and put away your shoes An unneutered male is more likely to mark. This is not a behavior that I am willing to accept, and I will never have an unneutered male dog in my home. Good luck!
