| Please Post Your Indoor Potty Setups! Hi everyone, I have an 8 week old Yorkie named Preston whom I am trying to housebreak. I live in a high-rise apartment building, so he will be an indoor potty-er (LOL). I am trying to find the right set-up for him. Right now, I have him in a baby playpen with his bedding on one side, and a potty pad on the other. I also have a wire crate with a divider, and I'm trying to figure out which will be the best route to take. I am open to dog litterboxes (for aim), although I would probably use them with potty pads instead of litter. Would you mind posting a picture of your crate/potty setup? Thanks in advance! P.S. I've attached a picture of him for your viewing pleasure! |

| Preston is so cute! I used to work ft, so mine had to be indoor potty trained & now we live in a condo w/no yard, so it worked out perfectly. Their designated potty area is in the bathroom (downstairs & upstairs). I prop up water bottles wrapped in pee pad against the wall so the boys can use it as their marker. Momo has his spot & Turbo has his loll. I use washable pee pads (which I wash daily) & line regular paper pee pads on the bottom for an x-tra layer of protection. I'm a clean freak, so I clean their potty area 3-4 x's a day! DSCN1234.jpg

| Here's our setup. I have 2 boys, and they each have their own area. They are in their pens when we are gone, otherwise the doors are open all the time. They are set up in our bedroom, so they are free to potty during the night. This has worked well for us, and they have both been fully trained since they were 5-6 months old |

| Oscar's potty oscar has the big squirt rascal litterbox. he has unique potty habits. he prefers the grate to poo but to pee he likes to stand on the grate on one side of the box and hike his leg on the potty pad so i fold one in half an put it on the side of the box like this... | I no longer have an indoor pottier but my last male was and I never thought of having something for him to lift is leg up on, he was neutured right at 6 months and I don't think I ever saw him lift his leg, I used to keep two step in medium size litter boxes side by side in my laundry roomand started off with newspaper and he always preferred that to the pee pads, so I used to get old newspapers from all my neigbors and I kept a covered trash bin in the closet in the same room. The problem with males is they dribble and so even though he would pee in the box he would drip as he go out, so I bought a rubbermade type rolled up closet liner that I put under the box and about a foot outside it, this helped save my wood floor from constant wipping up. My advice is to have something like that under and extending out from the edge of whatever you go with. The boxes I used now seem to be discontinued. One of the nice side effects of him going inside and squating was on walks he never had the urge to stop and mark every few min. in fact he could sense when it was time to go for a walk and he would run to his littler box to go right before we left the house, LOL just like I would, it was nice not having to always walk around with a poop bag. Good luck and Welcome to YT you little guys is adorabable

| http://i894.photobucket.com/albums/a...75f7d78100.jpg Hi, everyone! New here. I will post an introduction. But wanted to add my pic to this thread. I had hubby make us a pee pad pan with walls. We have 3 dogs. Jilly(11 yrs old)a maltese, Jack(8 yrs old)a yorkie and Benny(10 months old) a chihuahua. Benny lifts his leg very high, and I used to tape pee pads to the wall. This works great. Hubby made it out of sheet metal. Mary |

| Everyone, Thanks for your help! mimimomo, I never thought of having a marker... I like that idea! Schooby, what make you designate separate areas for them? My Oscar, you don't need the wall attachment for the Rascal box? Does he ever accidentally stand too close to the sides? DBlain, my little guy is still too young to tell, but I hope he doesn't become a leg lifter! Do you have the Purina dog littler box? I really hate that they discontinued them! Mary Johnson, that is awesome! My dad is pretty handy, I wonder if I should ask him to make something like that for me! |

I just got my two boys last week (8 weeks old) and they can't hold it for very long. I'm using a crate with a divider to keep their sleeping and potty area separate. Each one has their own crate and potty area. The idea is to keep them in the crate whenever we can't supervise them and overnight so they naturally learn to use the pee pad. After a few weeks, I should be able to let them roam in a pen area and have them go back into the crate on their own to potty. We'll see how that works. When I have them outside, they seem to naturally head to the grass area to potty. A few accidents on the patio, but given their young age I think they're doing pretty well. If this crate potty works well, I may just make it permanent. | |
