| Potty Training in the Frozen Tundra We have a 9 week old Biewer coming home in 2 weeks and are trying to figure out how to potty train this winter? I guess the question is do we take her out to potty or try to master the potty pad until the weather gets nicer in March or April. Don't want to confuse the poor pup, but don't want to be out there in 0 degree weather either with a puppy just a few months old? The end goal will be do go outside. I am a new dog owner, so all advice is appreciated. |

| Mine are trained to use a PeePad, and they will go outside too. I wouldn't risk a young puppy in such cold weather. Also you'll need to have a heavy coat and boots...

| I think it depends on the puppy too. I got Joel when he was 8weeks and in the middle of winter, I put a sweater on him and only took him outside to potty. Actually he would make a fit when I told him he couldn't play in the snow, lol I figured he should get used to the cold, living in Alaska, lol |

| Many people who want outdoor trained dogs but live in such climates order sod and put it in a specufic area garadge, porch. Potty pads work so do flase grasses like potty patch...one of my dogs was actually cork litter trained...I hear walnut litter is amazing in absorbancy and smell reduction. Also manu who have outdoor trained dogs and a severe weather situation go out cut some grass (sod) and do this temporarily on the rare occasion.

| I would definitely train her to go outside and use the potty pads. You will definitely appreciate not having to stand out there with her when it's freezing. We do potty pads for when we are gone and outside for when we are home. It is great

♥Love My 3 Furrbutts♥ Donating Member | I"m in Whitby, Onraio, Canada...the weather up here can reach up to -40C...mine get sweaters/coats and are only allowed outside to potty....funny I have a heck of a time trying to get them back inside....they love the snow! Crazy dogs! Me and the cold are NOT friends!

| I'm in Minnesota and I'm dreading the first real snow accumulation. I got Blazer at the end of this July and it rained the entire first week I had him. I took him out every day, every half an hour or so. Uff, it was rough but worth it. I have never bought puppy pads but I can totally see how they would be helpful at times. Overall, though, I would rather deal with the icky weather to get my dogs to potty outside. |
