| Growling Hi all My girlfriend and I have a ten week old Yorkie, Poppy (to the right) who has generally been behaving pretty well. She's energetic and loves to play and is (slowly) getting the hang of potty training. Her biting is reasonable and we've been working on all the bite inhibition techniques recommended, however recently she has started growling a lot when she is picked up. Is there any way to stop this and any particular reason for it? We live two stories up so we have to pick her up to take her outside but are worried that she is starting to resent us for it. Thanks |

| She's saying she doesnt want to be held or picked up in thay way. Start noticing how you are choosing to touch her picker her up. Dies she want to be held are you encroaching is it uncomfirtable for her. She sounds like a very well behaved dog to be vocalizing to you rather than biting or squirrming to get away, thats a sign of a good temperment.

| She does do the wriggling and biting a bit too, but as I said we're working on the bite inhibition. How would you recommend picking her up? My girlfriend had another Yorkie before so should be ok at picking her up but this still seems to be a problem (albeit she growls more at me). That should obviously read to the left not right above also. |

| My 17 year old is used to handling Ziva (3 yrs and 7+lbs) but when we got Abby last year ( then a very thin 2 lbs)we could tell she was having a problem being picked up. My sons hands are large and strong and seemed like he was gripping her a bit tight to prevent her from squirming away, especially under the front legs. We switched to a two hand cradle method and it seemed to solve the problem. |
