He was starting to potty outside, but now he's too cold to do it! Should I change? Hi Guys, My Yorkie is 13 weeks tomorrow and he was starting to get a hang of doind his business outside, but now the cold weather is really kicking in and it seems like he is too cold to go. Shoudl I change him to pee pad? I put a pad inside yesterday and he peed on it a couple times already, and pooh'ed right next to it, but not sure if was coincidence or not. I just don't want to end up confusing him. If I start the pee pads, will I just lose the two weeks I been training him to potty outside? Should I just take him out and leave him out until he does his business? I like the idea of the pad, because I can just carry along when we travel and can eventually move it outside, which is where I would like him to pee in long run. Should I start by putting a pad outside where he is used to going? Advice please!!

I have taken my dog outside and have pads in the house. I want him to do both. It's cold here and we haven't been out for a while either. But I'm going to start taking him out again. We are going to go out for just a few minutes - and if he goes the bathroom, great! - and if he doesn't, he'll have to come back inside and have to use the pee pad. I have noticed that when my dogs have to go to the bathroom - they go almost immediately when I take them outside. Be sure and always take him to the same spot outside - he'll smell where he has gone before and usually go quickly if he needs to. Good luck! Carol Jean PS: My puppy is a little less than perfect about using the pee pads in the house. If he is confined to an area, he will use them. If he isn't --he'd just as soon go anyplace. We're working on it though... Good luck!

Have you tried putting a warm fleece coat on & a vest jacket. I do that with Lexi. I stated training her out side in May & now it has been snowing in Michigan. She shivers a little bit. When they have snow on their fur, wipe them down with a towel & hold them to warm them up again. You can get really inexpensive jackets & sweater from Petsmart for $15

Tucker is 11 months and housebroken. Since cold weather has come, he does seem cold when we go out. We just go out and he gets done fast and ready to come back in. He wears a sweater on cold mornings. But, I live in Mississippi and cold to me is very different than you guys up north.

It's cold here in Delaware too. We take Parker out, and he goes, but sometimes doesn't want to hang out there for poop, so he just goes on the pee pad. He is doing both, because he pees a million times a day.
