| Picked out my baby today!! Hello, I am new to Yorkers. My family members have had them so I kind of know what to expect! I picked out my baby today but won't get her for another few weeks. I am a stay at home mom so I will have a ton of time to put towards her. I plan on crate training as I don't want to use a pee pad if possible. I understand that they have tiny bladders at the beginning but I hope for her to go outside most of the time. Anyway what I'm wondering is what is best right from the get got? I have read lots about training but how do you guys do it? I have had a bit larger dog and I would take her outside to relieve herself and if she went then we played for a few minutes then back in her kennel to nap then repeat, expect for went she would eat and drink. Is this what you guys do? Thanks in advance! |

♥Love My 3 Furrbutts♥ Donating Member | This may have been missed..bumping for you. I took my two out every two hours...after they play after they chew, right when they wake up. Yorkies are a bit harder to potty train, just so you know. Mine are both over a year now and they still have the occasional accident. I never make a fuss over the accident, they are usually my fault, so i clean up with an odour neutralizer and pay closer attention for next time. If i cant watch them, they are confined to their x-pen.

Senior Yorkie Talker | Hi, congrats on your new baby! I'm still getting use to Jaxson (got him 2 weeks ago) he's 12 weeks old & fully house trained! I know I know he could have the occasional accident but for the most he barks to let us know he needs to go outside & so every 30 minutes to an hour we take him out & he does his stuff! We praise him when he does & bring him right back inside! We take him out about 10-15 minutes after he eats or drinks, after he naps, plays, anything we stay on him & he is smart as can be! If he messes in the house it's our fault! He sleeps in his crate in our bedroom & he loves it! He has never messed in it & sleeps through the night! My husband is in the Army and gets up early as it is so when he gets up Jax is up ready to go to the bathroom so he takes him out lets him do his stuff then puts him in his play pen & he plays for about another hour till I get up! When I get up i'll take him out, feed him & let him play! They are smart & so much fun! Enjoy!!! Don't get discouraged either! They are babies & over time will understand & learn! Good luck! |
