| Bringing A New Puppy Home So my parents have decided to get a puppy. He's going to be a yorkie/pom mix and he's coming home on wednesday evening. Sasha has always been the only dog in the household for the past 4 years. What is the best way to introduce her to the puppy once the puppy is brought into the household? |

hi , if you can bring sasha with you to pick up the new puppy. introduce them on nuetral ground. when you get home put the puppy in an ex pen if you have it and just let them get acquainted for awhile. if it looks like they are doing ok put sasha on a leash take the puppy out and let it walk around and investigate. just supervise any interaction till they are comfortable together..

I will not be able to bring Sasha with me. The woman I'm getting him from is meeting me at the vet's office I work at at the end of my shift and I'm just taking him home from there. Thank you for the tips though.

| We had to bathe Abby right away- the other dogs were much more accepting when she smelled more like them! |

I thought about doing that but the vets office I'm currently at is quite a hike from where we live and Sasha does not do well with car rides at all. She gets way too worked up.

| Having them meet even outside the house for a few minutes and then walk them into the house together. Much better than bringing the new puppy inside the house to meet the older one. Good luck - let us know how it goes for their first meeting.

| UPDATE: Well yesterday when I got home from work with Noah, I had my mom bring Sasha outside so the two of them could meet. I feel bad because Noah just wants to play with Sasha so bad and Sasha just doesn't know what to do. She has never been around a puppy/dog with as much energy as Noah has. She does stiffen up and lets him chase her around, but she does growl when he gets on her nerves or if she's around me or my parents getting attention (which we are working on correcting since we obviously don't want her doing that). One of my old co-workers who is an amazing dog trainer is coming to our house Saturday to observe and help us out. I think things will be fine, it's just going to take some time. |
