| UGH! Missed again.... OK so Hope and I were outside for over 30 mins and no potty. I no sooner brought her into the house. Turned my back for seriously one second to see if I had her toy and there she goes. On the carpet! I instantly picked her up and put her on the pee pad but it was too late. They weren't kidding when they say you can't take your eyes off them for a second. Any advice? She uses the pee pads when I have her in the play pen and the door to that was open but when I give her free time in the family room she doesn't seem to go to the pee pads. Any advice? |

| Next time, bring her in then turn right around and take her back out. It may stimulate her to go. Towards the end of her potty, say "Go Potty" or whatever phrase you choose, then praise and give a treat.

| I used to take a slightly soiled potty pad outside with me and place my little one on or right next to it. Also, if the dog didn't potty, I learned the hard way to bring them in and if I was going to be even momentarily busy, place them in the crate where they either had to go on the potty pad there or hold it. Then, once I was done, it was back outside, even if they had pottied on the pad in the crate. It was just a rule of thumb I had - after being in the crate, even a short time, I took the dog outside. That way they got the expectation that if they held it while in the crate, a break would be coming. They could count on it every time.

| I'm starting to think I'm never going to get this. I had her either with me or in her crate all day & no potty. I finally sat down on the kitchen floor not taking my eye off her...she wanders over to the corner & squats but it was too late by the time I got up. I still can't tell when she's sitting or getting ready to pee. At least it wasn't the carpet this time. lol |

| I had trouble catching my Peek a Boo going in the right place. After two months, I decided to teach him the command first as he went. So the next time he had to 'go' (on the carpet, lol) I said 'Go Potty', I praised him and gave him a treat. Then the next time I thought he needed to go, I took him out and said 'Go Potty'. He did! and got praise and a treat! Then I kept working on his timing and where to 'go', now he comes and gets me to let him out! If you can't see her signals, go back to using time increments, every hour, the every 1.5 hours, etc.

This always worked well for me....that soiled pee pad, moved outside (and then returned inside, where they find it again!) seemed to flip on a switch...like, "OOOOHHHH! I get it now!!!" And the consistency of the trip outside EVERY SINGLE TIME THEY COME OUT OF THE CRATE....pain in the ....but it has to be done to become ingrained in their behavior. It is all about EXPECTATIONS!!!! | |

| Thanks everyone for the encouragement. Today went a little better. She did great last night and slept the entire night with no crying. Got her up and took her out...NO POTTY. Gave her breakfast and water, let her run in the kitchen a half hour and took her out again. NO POTTY so I put her in the crate. Half hour later she starts to whine so I teethered her in the playpen on the potty pad. FINALLY she gave in and went potty on the pad. I praised her and instantly took her back upstairs to the kitchen and gave her a treat and play time. Back in the crate again for two hours and she slept while I was at church. Again no crying....tried taking her out when I got home...nothing, put her down in the kitchen and began doing the dishes. Sure enough I turned around and there she goes. She is so sneaky! HA! About 4 pm we went to my daughters for a barbeque and she was wonderful all day. She received a lot of attention from family and was great with the kids. Ate the best she's eaten since I brought her home and seemed to be drinking but it's now 10:35 pm and I still can't get her to go potty. Should I be concerned? I finally gave in and put her back in her crate and she's sleeping. |
