| My dog will not eat any treats! I really want to start training my dog to stay in the yard and not run away. He has always ran away and it give danger to him. He has almost been hit by a cat but I live in a court and he never leaves the court, just run away from you. I need treats to reward him with and he won't eat milk bones or anything! I'm guessing he likes soft treats. How to Clicker Train Your Dog to Stay in the Yard | Karen Pryor Clickertraining my method |

| I use plain Cheerios cereal, or Gerber's Graduates Puff for toddlers. It takes a few days to get them used to eating them but now mine love them. For really serious training, you can use small pieces of cooked, unseasoned chicken.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Don't give a big treat; Milk bones are way too large for a Yorkie, they will get full too fast. Find something your dog loves and give tiny pieces. Cheerios are fine for short training sessions, some dogs love thawed frozen green beans, a tiny piece. You can boil a chicken breast and cut it in tiny pieces. You can even dehydrate it in the oven by cooking it at 200 degrees for about an hour or so.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Great suggestions. Smaller and easier to swallow is always better because it doesn't interrupt the training session while they chew. You might also try using a squeaky toy as a motivator, allowing them to play tug of war as a reward.

| My Yorkie Didn't Eat Treats Either I found it very difficult to train my Yorkie because he wouldn't eat training treats and I could only use gratitude and praise. I decided to try Cheerios and they worked like a charm. My Yorkie also eats little bits of cooked vegetables and fruit in tiny pieces. I take the skin off of apples and give him a very small chunk or two. As the Yorkie got older he was more open to dog treats, but I figure the healthy people food is cheaper and he likes it better. |

| Freeze dried chicken, dehydrated chicken, freeze dried liver, cherrios, fresh chicken, cheese, and Goldfish crackers are big time sellers in my house. They also all love fruit and veggies. You could also use actual dog kibble too- Worked great with Buddy when I first got him since he had a super sensitive tummy. No one likes Milk Bone- Not even Buddy, Golden retriever, who thinks deer poop is natures raisinnettes.

Toki likes frozen green beans (especially when it's hot out!), most fruits/veggies, Blue Buffalo Trail Treats, BB Stix and Bits, and any kind of freeze-dried treats like Stella & Chewys Carnivore Kisses or Carnivore Crunch! | |

| My baby is extremely finicky with treats too. She won't eat Cheerios, green beans or much else. I finally figured out she will eat dried beef liver cut into real tiny pieces, but even then she sniffs them and doesn't act overly excited for her treats. I have found out her biggest motivator is playing with her squeaky toys. She has learned the names of each one and when I tell her to get said toy she will look until she finds that one. That is how I realized she was motivated in that way. So now every time I tell her to do something it isn't a simple treat, it is a 5 minute play with me and her squeaky toys. More time consuming but so worth it. |

| I know this is a little old but I am new here and love this thread! My Bentley turns his nose up to treats. We have tried everything. He even seperated his treats out of his food bowl and put them on the floor to show us he won't eat them. Smart pup! He goes nuts for a tiny piece of nectarine. Is that ok to motivate him for his trainings?? |

| I would recommended going to obedience training with him. That was one of the best things I've ever done with Heidi. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
