| Defensive Yorkie Kobie is 1 yr old and is soo defensive. He will fight me if I try to hold him close to me. In fact, I am afraid he will break his leg if I don't let him go. I have had him since he was 12 wks old and he came from a reputable breeder. I try to love on him and I have never been mean to him in any way. He runs from me when I call him. I thought that Yorkies were suppose to be very loving, but Kobi just does not like the love at all. Has anyone ever heard of a yorkie being like this ? Does anyone have any suggestions to what I might can do ? Thanks !

| Hi, Keep in mind I'm NOT a Yorkie expert and I don't know nearly the number of things I would like to know. But... That being said, have you taken him in to the vet to see if he might have an illness that would be (similar) to a human's Fibromyalgia type of thing? I know it might sound weird, but it's a possibility. He might have some sort of pain that occurs when his body is touched...causing him to not want to be held or loved on. Some sort of sensory processing disorder maybe? I think it's at least worth a look into. |

| Mika, I am glad to hear you say that. He does only do what he wants to do and on his terms only. He will get in my lap, but when I try to pet him, he will get down. He loves children but he just does not like to be restrained in any way. Thanks for all the comments.

| He is still pretty young and has puppy energy. He may like being cuddled more later.

| I still find it very strange that he doesnt even let you pet him. Even dogs who dont want to cuddle, or dogs who only want to be held on their own terms still like to be petted. I just wonder if he didnt get enuf socialization when he was little, or wasnt held/ petted enuf. OR like someone else mentioned, maybe he could be painful. Are you able to bathe him? Or cut his hair? Or trim his toe nails? |

| Does he get a lot of exercise? My puppy who's only 13 weeks (so i'm not sure if this applies) is really squirmy, as he's very high energy. He doesn't like being held for long unless it's when I take him on errands (he knows that it's either be carried by me or be alone at home) Well, when I drain his energy by playing intense fetch and chasing for like 30 min straight then he will get tired and want to nap. At that point I can put him on my lap and he will just lay there silently letting me pet him all I want. |
