Another potty question Bella is 12 weeks old and doing very well as far as never having an accident in nher crate. She whines at night if she needs to go and is taken into the bathroom to use the potty pad she will go and then go right back to sleep. During the day, however, if she is playing and needs to go she will go anywhere. Do you keep your puppy confined to a smaller area at first so they find their pad faster or do you allow them freedom (always supervised) so they learn to go to their potty pad when needed? I hate to keep her confined when we are home except at night but is that how you train them? If caught or seems like she needs to go I will take her in the bathroom and shut the door and keep telling her to go potty, if she does she is praised highly. Just wondering if I am doing things right or if her freedom is too much and the accidents are setting her back ( I guess worried I am training her to go anywhere because it happens quite a bit). Also she has not gone outside because we live in MN and it is so cold here and will be until April/May. Will I be able to train her to go outside at that point or will she be too confused having used the potty pads all winter? Thank you for your advice! |
