Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Oh no she didn't! LOL Hey guys! Well Katie Scarlett is not a big barker...so far. She is almost 5 months. She seems to get frisky right before bed time and here lately has started barking a lot during that time. She likes to get under our couch in the man cave and bark. I tell her 'enough' but she just keeps going. I tried a dog whistle, pennies in the can trick and neither worked. She just keeps barking. Well tonight when she started her nightly ritual, she came into the next room I was in and looked at me and started barking! It was like she was backtalking me when I was telling her 'enough.' I am trying to teach her 'good bark' and 'enough' so that she can do the warning barks. But here lately, she compleltely ignores me. My husband thinks I should just let her get it out of her system. Is he right? Or do I need to nip this now? Any tips/advice on how I can teach her that we don't bark continuously under the couch before bed? Thanks!

| Unfortunately I have no advice but Silver used to never be a barker but then at about 7 months she started barking all the time. We try to tell her enough and move her away from the door when she does it but it doesn't work so we pretty much ignore her when she does it or close the door.

| You made me laugh about KS backtalking! I swear they go through that phase. My Cricket whom I raised from a pup went through a backtalking phase. Looking back, it makes me smile. At the time, it seemed like a mother/daughter showdown. Cricket eventually grew out of it and quit the backtalking. You just have to be more persistent/stubborn than they are. (I know, easier said than done.) It seems like all of a sudden one day they find their "voice" and are anxious to use it. I would say "no bark" and then distract her w something - a toy she likes maybe.

| this is a good question my Brandy is three months and she does it to but not so much to get out of hand... but like everyone i had one of those nights. Brandy is not allowed in any bedroom in our apartment granted we have a really big place. I got talking to a petland discount worker who has a yorkie and she told me to try a radio. So I did about two hours before shes ready for bed I take care of her needs and put on the radio tell her everything is ok and lay down. we also give her a soft shhhhh when she yelps and enough when she barks. It's been working for us. Only thing is she sleeps with the radio on light FM till 1am then I come and shut it off.

| Ziva has always been a busy, active yorkie, that is what makes her so charming! She was a real handful as a pup. If she got tons of exercise (long walks) she was not so stubborn at night- if I was too busy, well, we paid for it! She really did come around after one year and than again at two, but she is still the Boss! |
