| I feel terrible... Around midnight Teddy hopped into his crate and stretched out to sleep. He's really learning to associate that he only has to go in there at night and it's cozy so he falls asleep fast. Well hubby and I fell asleep about an hour later (we watch a tv show in bed every night before we sleep). In general we go to bed around midnight and wake up at 9AM. I wake up almost every hour to pee. It kind of plays in my favor with Teddy because I'm already awake in case he needs to go potty, the past few days have been kind of varying for when I take him out. Thursday he woke up at 1AM,3AM, 6AM, (he cried each time) Friday he woke up at 4AM and 7AM (once again he was crying to get out). Saturday I woke up at 4AM (he was sleeping but I figured he must need to go at this point), Sunday I woke up at 6AM (he didn't want to get out of the crate but once his feet were in the grass he pottied). Fast forward back to last night, he went to bed around midnight. It was SO sweet to see him just climb in and cuddle his toy. Because hubby and I stayed up later I was more tired than usual and I slept through the night. Only got up about an hour after we fell asleep. I woke up at 7:45AM... Which means Teddy was in that crate for ENTIRELY too long. I felt sooo bad, I turned on the light and he groggily peered at me like "ehhhh it's bright in here" I took him out and without throwing on my robe or shoes I took him to potty. He pee'd and poo'd and then hopped around the grass. I gave him his treat and we walked a little bit until I saw my neighbors and then embarassed for being in my PJs we went inside. Well I felt around his crate (expecting pee) and it was dry. I even took the mat out and smelled it and it didn't smell like pee. Teddy ate his breakfast and then went BACK into his crate for some more Z's. I would like to add that I would NEVER expect a 4month old pup to hold it that long, he didn't cry for me to take him out and i'm a light sleeper. It was a fluke, but like this is the 3rd night he didn't wake me. Unfortunately I had overslept, but how do I gauge when he needs to go if he doesn't tell me? Should I just set an alarm? If so what time would be good? I feel bad for making him wait that long but he wasn't even awake the past few times I woke up to take him out. Should I wait until he's ready on his terms? I'd like for him to tell me but Im kind of confused. Any help?

| Good morning! And congratulations on you lovely long sleep!! If little Teddy needed to potty, he would have 'told' you. He knows that he can, and that you'll be up and about for him, if need be. All of them reach a point (thankfully some sooner than others!) when they don't need constant pottying. Night time is their sleep time too. When Harry was little Teddy's age, he used to get into his crate (in our room) about 10 p.m. and not wake up, or need to potty, until our alarm went off about 6.30 a.m. We figured we could hear him, see him - and he'd let us know if/when he needed to pee. He'll let you know - I wouldn't worry - just enjoy!! Sally + Harry x |

| Thank you for the assurance! I think being a new pup mom is making me soo paranoid. Yea, Teddy is in our room too and when I get up to use the restroom usually he'll either jump up and whine or stay sleeping and lately it's sleeping so I guess it really is a good thing! whew! thanks again

| Midnight-7:45 is not too long. If he is not waking you up, and his crate is dry, then he is telling you he is fine and can hold it! That's less than 8 hours. Pretty normal night for most pups, though some will take longer and need every 6 hours through the night. Jackson began sleeping through the night at probably around 4 or 4 1/2 months too. I would say it was about the same .... 7-8 hours through the night. He stopped waking me up once I let him sleep on my bed, the first night he slept thru the night, and well... the rest is history as they say! Now, at 3 years old and 16lbs, he often sleeps 10-12 hours overnight, lol.

Cody is my big boy, and like Brit's Jackson, he started sleeping all night by 4-5 months. But he was a larger Yorkie, i.e. larger bladder. Cailee, our newest baby, is 6 months (and 4 pounds) and can make it 6-7 hours (which is great now because she was waking us every 2 hours when we first got her). So my suggestion is don't worry and enjoy the sleep!

| Yea, Teddy is at the age where being able to sleep through the night is possible. When we stayed at my mom's for thanksgiving he did wet his crate twice but I think he was just confused because of the new environment and his schedule was thrown off. However, now that we're back home he's doing great! This morning I woke up at 4am and felt worried so I while getting him out of his crate he plopped on the floor and just stared at me like, "really mom, now?" Thanks for the assurance. Now, all I got to do is work on him telling me during the daytime. We put some bells by the door. Still waiting on an accident free day. I'm glad nighttime is easy.

| Dont b too hard on yourself. Sunny can go about 6 full hours in her crate/play yard. Granted the first thing I do when I wake up or get home from work is scoop her up and run her outside, but she has never had an accident. It just has to be that way for us. Though usually on the weekends and in the evenings she gets taken out OFTEN, but she can hold it if need be.....and she really is fine. Bobbi

Crate is clean and dry every morning except for one time when he got sick during the night (and let us know he was in distress). I wish potty training was going as well.. kind of catch me b/4 I goooooo....
