| Incontinence issues since getting spayed Zoey is 10 months old. She was spayed 3 weeks ago. Ever since she recovered from her surgery she has been having accidents all over the house. (At least I hope they're accidents and not intentional). She never had accidents before her surgery. Have any of you ever had this problem? Thank you in advance for any advice.

| I did a google on your problem and it seems like it happens quite frequently! Try googling it and you will find all kinds of info. Seems like it happens with younger dogs, but from a few sites I read, can be over in a couple of days. If it continues though, please take her back to the vet to find out what's going on. There are meds that can be given to help stop it, but I'm not familiar with their side effects on this breed, etc. Keep us posted on how she's doing! Also, my little pal was neutered 2 |

| Friday's ago, and was given shots to which he had a reaction. I took him back in and vet gave him cortisone shot for allergies as well. Cortisone can cause incontinence temporarily too. Hope this helps. |

| it is not common in dogs that young. I would wonder if she has a uti. I would def go have her urine checked for an infection. |

| Thanks so much for your replies! I talked to the Vet & was told that she'd be squatting constantly if she had a UTI. He thinks she's doing it deliberately because she never "goes" in the kitchen or the living room. He figures she's ticked about something. Also, that we'd have to start over at square one with her potty training.....bummer! Thanks again for your suggestions.

| It could be a UTI. The squatting constantly thing is not true. Both of my dogs have had UTIs (one of them has had them many times) and neither squat constantly. They are not uncommon post abdominal surgery. And if she does have one and it is let go because the vet refuses to test, then she could remain in a lot of pain and it could lead to other serious issues. I would find a vet that is willing to test for one. If it is not that, spay incontinence is possible. Dogs don't really have the spite emotion. It could be training regression, but why right after surgery... Knowing that she was very good about pottying before, I would find a vet that is willing to make sure there is nothing medically wrong before putting her through potty training again. BTW, saw your city. Very cool place! We aren't too far from you.

| I totally agree with Ellie May. Dogs don't really have the spite emotion. Take into consideration all the rescued animals that were beaten and will still show love and affection to a new adoptive parent. Sounds like the vet doesn't have a clue or doesn't care. I ran into this with a vet last week myself. I would indeed find another that will test for the UTI. While googling about your pets problem, I came across some info too that said that something might have gone a little wrong with the spay surgery where a nerve may have been nicked causing this, in which case would be the fault of the vet who may not want to admit it happened. In such a case, it might be permanent. Not trying to scare you, but I would have this looked into by another vet. He can't be too up to date on his info if he claims the dog may be doing this out of spite. Read my post HORRIBLE WEEK FOR MOJO!!! & ME... I took the poor little fellow to one hum dinger of a vet and learned a big lesson! |

| I had the same issue with Princess after she was spayed. The vet ruled out a uti & we basically summed it up to the spay and being 'drugged up' afterwards led to accidents, which led to potty regression once she was better from smelling the accidents, etc. We had to start all over with confining, rewarding, etc. though it was much easier than the first time around. I guarantee Princess has been upset with me, as she has that diva personality, but she's never went potty to 'get back at me'. She will search out a tissue to shred however.

| That's what I felt too after googling and seeing so much info on this happening after spaying Princess10. My Mojo didn't have it after neuter, but the cortisone shot sure had him streaking urine all over my carpet the 1st 24 after it. Geeze, the vet never even told me this could happen so I was scared to death as he had thrown up 4 or 5 times and vet was just totally unconcerned. I let him have a piece of my mind as he was totally wrong with so many things he did or didn't do with Mojo. I also gave him a bad review on his online profile so others would know better. Also found a few others who were displeased with his attitude and non caring. Mojo has a great new vet, but still sneezing and I'll be taking him back to the vet on Friday as I feel the bordetella innoculation may have given him a slight case as I've read it can sometimes do. TRUTH4DOGS.COM is a great site about all these shots being pumped into our babies, and I have it saved to favs, lol. |
