| 4yr old pooing in the night, help!! Hi everyone, I have a small Yorkie who is 4 years old, called Daniel, who has started going downstairs in the night and pooing on the kitchen carpet. He wee's sometimes too inside the house and my carpet is getting stained and the stains won't come out no matter what I do. I always let him out before we go up to bed. Daniel has a bed on the floor in my bedroom but I think maybe he should go in his crate at night. I always let him out before I go out, sometimes I'm only gone for an hour and he messes. He doesn't like going outside much, especially if its cold or wet. He would rather do his mess on the door matt instead of going outside. I have a crate for him for when I am at work, but he messes in there too. I would love any suggestions of what I should do or where I am going wrong, Many thanks, Becky and Daniel x |

| Sounds like maybe he was previously pad trained? Have you tried using pee pads inside for him?

| Do you free feed him or is it scheduled feedings? If you free feed I would consider taking away food at about 5pm. I did that to Kaos when he was a pup and he stopped having accidents in the crate at night. Also, how big is the crate? It should only be big enough for them to stand up and turn around in, other wise they are more likely to potty inside because they don't have to be close to it. Also have you considered putting a potty pad down for him to use? The fact that he is pottying on the door mat, makes me think he was potty pad trained previously, and might be the easiest thing for him to transition to. Oh and Daniel isen't the only yorkie that doesn't like to do his business outside when it's cold or wet. I think most do not like to. Kaos HATES cold/wet weather, so for bad weather I will put a potty pad down for him. (even though i prefer him to go outside, its better than accidents on the carpet) Good luck! I hope this helps.
