4 month old, teething... So over the last 2 weeks (I've had my yorkie for 4 weeks now) she has what seems to be teething. She started to playful bite last few days and i have to literally hide my hands in bed so she doesnt try to bite. now mind you, she doesnt bite hard, but its quick annoying. suggestions on nipping this in the butt early on. i do tell her "no bite" then hide my hands and get her a chew stick. any other suggestions? lots of toys? any specific ones?

When Ziva was teething I carried a small nylabone in my pocket so I had it available. My no bite sound was a sharp "nyet!" Her favorite toys were the small petstages brand, a couple little hartz stuffed toys w/ a rope neck, and lots of human baby stuffed teething toys, from yardsales (4-$1!!!!), these are still her favorite- they are so washable, well made and crinkle-rattles.( I pick them up every night and check for wear throwing out accordingly). Her other fav was strips of fleece that we braided and wove (like lanyards)-good for tug, chew, cleaning and loosening those little teeth.

| You're off to a good start. I always would say "no bite, get a toy" and then direct her towards her toys. I would not play unless she had a toy to play with. They eventually learn, hands no, toys yes if they want to play. It just takes a little repetition but it will eventually work.

The biting is not only annoying but also quite painful, I agree with what was said I tell mine NO BITES and replace with a proper toy. I find the more others think it is so cute it encourages them so I ask everyone to remain consistent. My puppy just turned 7 months, Wait till she peaks on teething and you smell the foul odor from puppy breath till it is almost nuclear. I started the daily finger brushing and giving her chilled teething rings to alleviate the bad breath it is a buildup of blood n the gums and as I am told by my vet gets better after all teething is finished about when 10 months old some more some less. Good Luck

Ziva's adult teeth were all in by 6 months, she was being spayed so the vet went ahead and removed the 7 baby teeth that didn't fall out and caused a double row of teeth. She stopped chewing on inappropriate things (baseboards, antique furniture) by then and was allowed free run of the house by 8 months. She is two and still chews on toys- rawhide/ bully etc treats don't agree with her and ruin her already poor appetite.(probably because she gobbles them up)
