Yorkie Yakker | Yay for you! I found out a SUCCESSFUL way to train Yorkies to "Go get it" "Bring it back" "Drop it" AND "Leave it" all wrapped up in one!! Here's how: First, find your Yorkie's FAVORITE toy. Make sure they get absolutely NO usage of it a week before attempting this. Or, if you remember a oldie but a goodie, and they still make 'em, buy one and give it to your Yorkie. I tried it with a squeak Air Dog Kong ball, and it worked great. You could try buying a nice Gramma honker chicken, as the treat. Make sure you have a 2nd fave too. Now, let's start! OK. First, show them the toy. (My dog loves chasing things, because when she was itty bitty, a few months old, I rolled balls down my slightly sloping driveway. ) Now, throw the toy at least 2-5 yards away, as you say, "Go get it (insert Yorkie's name)!!". Once they are around a foot away from it, say, "Good 'Go get it'!"(say it all sing-songy, and DON'T say "Good job!" or "Good dog!". I tried that, and she wouldn't do it as continuously.) Then, quickly say, "Now bring it back to me!!" (Remember, command voice is firm and strict. Reward voice is happy and sing-songy.) Now, when they stop say, "Drop it!" then when your Yorkie drops it, say, "Parfait 'Drop it'!"(parfait is French for perfect. You'll teach your Yorkie some French!). Now, I'm guessing your Yorkie is about to pick it up. If not, skip this. If so, keep reading. QUICKLY say, "Leave it!" sharply. This will move their head away from the toy, and your Yorkie will look up. Say REALLY sing-songy, "PARFAIT 'Leave it'!! My baby did it! Yaaaaaaaay!!" Thanks for reading. Please use if it worked, if it didn't. tinkysmommy

Yorkie Yakker | Gramma Honker Chicken THE GRAMMA HONKER CHICKEN!! I found them at PetCo and PetSmart, and I think Thomlimpson's, or Thompson's, or Thom-something-or-another. They honk really loud, so if you or Yorkie has sensitive ears, avoid these. Thanks!!
