Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Potty Training Question Hey guys! I have a question. How do you go about training your Yorkie to pee inside on the tee tee pads AND outside? If possible, I would like our little girl to be able to do both. The reason I ask this is because we would definitely be traveling (maybe flying???) every now and then since I live 13 hours away from my family. I would like for her to be able to use the pad when we are at the airport, in hotel rooms, any time we need to leave her at home for just an hour or so. I plan on trying to take her with us as much as we can. But I'd also like for her to be able to go when we are out at the park, or visiting my Mom's house and are outside, etc. Is that even feasible? I've read 2 books on Yorkies (on my 3rd now) and although they have talked about potty training to an extent, they didn't really cover if you could train your dog to do both or go into a lot of depth on the subject. Any advice? I sure would appreciate it! Thanks! Have a great day!

| My boys are pad trained and outdoor trained. It is handy for emergencies or traveling. I can take them to visit places, stores or homes, where there is not a pad available and they know not to potty indoors. However, if you are going to do both ways for potty training, I would recommend always making the pad available in your home, 24 hours a day. If the pad comes and goes, then it would probably be confusing for your pup. Hope that makes sense. If not, I will try to clarify. Remember to praise, praise, praise for good potties.

| Zoey uses both wee wee pads and goes outdoors. It took longer for her to figure out that outdoors was ok. She would hold both pee/poo until she came back in. It just took a while. She uses the wee wee pads at night in our bedroom.

| If you can teach your dog to pee on command as they get a little older they will pee (and poop) when you tell them regardless of where they are. (as long as they find an acceptable place, sometimes takes a little bit of sniffing around if they are in unfamiliar place) I just repeat "potty, potty, potty..." while they are pee/pooping everytime I see them doing it from the time they are puppies.By about 18 months they will squat the minute I start the potty chant! |
