| How can my jumpy puppy be groomed? My Yorkie Maddy is 8 months old (her birthday was yesterday ) & she REALLY needs to be groomed. Her coat is getting so long & shaggy & her nails are growing very rapidly. But she is terrified of the grooming process. She runs away from & bites at the groomer's & their tools. In fact, she doesn't even like getting brushed by us at home. We have no idea why or what to do. One groomer even made the comment "You guys must keep her in a cage all day because she is so scary." & that really upset us because Maddy is NEVER in a cage & we take her everywhere with us so she is used to places other than our home. We [try to] brush her nearly everyday & she still hates the brush & we have a set of hair clippers at home that we'll sometimes turn on so she can get used to the sound of them (as suggested by a groomer) but she just bites at them. The only time she's ever been groomed was after she got spayed & was heavily medicated. Someone suggested that we try to get her groomed while she is asleep (like medicated) but that doesn't seem very safe, should we try it? Please help!

| Have you tried a different groomer? Sammy was a handful when he was younger and I changed groomers. We found a mobile groomer who Sammy loved and was well behaved for. He would always give Sammy treats too for being a good boy. He was Sammy's groomer for 10 years. Keep trying to brush your pup just for a few minutes each day and reward with a little treat for good behavior. Good Luck!! |

| You need to try a different groomer. One that is not patient with dogs of all personalities isnt going to earn your dogs trust. Also you need to have her groomed frequently untill she gets used to it

| Ruger hated being groomed and I just kept at it. Now he loves it. Make sure you are using the correct type of brush and you're not pulling his hair. If you hit a snag carefully pull it apart and keep going. The more you groom the easier it gets. You can also try some calming remedies and candles made for dogs. Products like "Rescue Remedy" don't work on Ruger, but many people here swear by it. |

| I have this same problem. Chloe had her first grooming at 14 weeks, which was this week. Oh boy was she aggressive. She was biting and growling....I could tell a long story about the grooming process, but long story short......we will be looking for another groomer. |
