| Healthy treats help... Hello! This worked for me... maybe it will work for you too. I purchased some treats from "The Blue Buffalo Co.", they are tasty chicken treats in the shape of small hearts. I split them in half and place them in a small bowl next to where I will be grooming Hana. Once Hana is on my lap I start to gently comb her hair... I pause in between and give her a treat and praise her for being a good girl. I continue to comb her hair but do take several breaks in between to reward her for sitting still. She knows that if she sits still she will get a treat. Be persistent, it will pay off. This is a great opportunity to bond with your puppy, soon she will enjoy her grooming time and you won't need any more treats... unless you still want to reward her at the end. Again, this method has worked for me & hopefully it can help you out a bit too. Good luck |

| Thanks for this info. My Ahi doesn't like it either and squirms a lot. I will try it out. I do notice that the Madan comb works better for those areas than the brush does though.

| I agree you have to reward good behaviour. Treats usually are a great way to do this. Just make sure you give very small treats. Even the smallest treats I usually cut into pieces about the size of 1/3 of my pinky fingernail. Ozzy is getting used to bathing and brushing, but I give lots of praise and treats the whole time.

| I agree a good brush must be used. Madans are great, and have different stiffnesses for difference coats. I started training Uni with brushing when she was sleeping. I got her used to being on her back on my lap to brush her tummy. Go a little at a time. If they start getting squirmy, just stop, and wait until a little later. They will get used to it.

| One thing that may help is brush / comb from the tip of the hair toward the skin. Do not start next to the skin and pull the brush toward the tip of the hair, if there is any mat, tangle, knot etc. Once you are sure all snarls are gone you can brush from the skin out. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Roxy didn't like being brushed when she was young. Was constantly wanting to chew the brush, preventing me from brushing. I just kept at it, gave treats/praise for being good when appropriate. Gradually she just started accepting that this was just part of life. Now she seems to enjoy it. It took quite awhile though. Just keep working at it. Make sure the brush feels good against her skin. I don't use the wire brushes. If it doesn't feel good against my arm, I don't use it.

| Ella will let me brush her body but wants nothing to do with me grooming her head. She bites at the brush - pulls away when I try to do a top knot or put a bow in. I have been taking her to PetSmart for the puppy service every two weeks. They give a bath and dry her and brush her out and just trim her up a little bit. I don't want them to give her a haircut or anything but it seems like she is getting a little bit better after each time she is there. It is only $15.99 if they are 6mo or under. They told me to take a spoon and when I am sitting with her to rub it along her face so she gets use to having something near her face when it comes time for a haircut.
