| potty training from the 3rd floor! hello fellow YT lovelies! here's our predicament. Clover, my 9 MO and I live in a shared house. i have a room on the 3rd floor and of course the back garden is on the ground floor. i have my bedroom door open at all times and have a puppy pad on the landing by the stairs. which clover uses perfectly. when i get up in the morning, i take him to the garden, open the door and tell him "toilet" and he goes without fail. (he holds it through the night i guess) however, i can't leave the back door open all the time so i would love to train him to come and get me if he wants to go to the garden. and eventually get rid of the pads completely. another little problem we have is, that the bathroom is on the 2nd floor, and clover has left a little pile of no. 2s on the white bath mat occasionally. (i wonder if he thinks its another puppy pad there) what do you think is going on inside his little fuzzy head? and how can i go about getting him to alert me when he wants to go to the garden? awaiting the wisdom of YT! thank you |

| You just keep doing what you are doing. He might could be trained to use a bell when he wants out. If I was on the 3rd floor I would be thrilled that Mina was using a pad,she wont and that means we go out even in the rain. |

| I feel your pain. I live on a third-floor apartment. That being said, I do prefer that Levi is outdoor trained and I give him every opportunity to go outside. Even at 3 years old, he is on a very consistent, predictable potty schedule. I think this helped him learn to "tell" me when he has to go outside. He'll sit by the door when he needs to go out, or if it is an emergency, he will cry at my feet. He will use the potty pads if he is home alone, but definitely prefers to go outside.
