| Grass Patches, anyone try them? I was looking at a few the Rascal, UGODog, Potty Patch....has anyone tried any of these. Pita is wonderful about going outside every time we take her. Inside I have a large pen with a tarp under it and potty pads for her to use. She does use the pads but it can be hit and miss between the pads and the tarp. I think if I had one of these grass patches in there she would use it more consistently...I just wanted to get other feedback on them if you had tried one of them out. Thx. |

| We tried the Pup Head one with Ella when she first came home for a few weeks. I have since decided to train her to go outside at home and am using the grass patch at work. She uses it just fine - no problems. I actually put a baby lap pad under the grass inside the tray to catch the pee and wash it nightly. The grass definitely has an odor and has to be washed out a lot but it has worked for us especially since there will be no where for her to go at my work in the winter once it snows.

| I tried the 'potty patch' and it was not at all what I thought. The tray under the grass is not deep at all, I think even my little yorkie would fill it very quickly. Also my dog never used it, he just thought it was a bed and layed on it. I did pretty well using a kitty litter box with a potty pad in it. I dunno, maybe it works for some dogs but I didnt like it.

| I tried the Rascal and, though it worked really well, I couldn't take the smell of the grass. Now we are using the bigger Second Nature litter box with a pad inside it. I think it makes a difference when the dogs have to go into something. Helps them to not miss the pads. Now...if I could just get Teddy to not drip on the way out...

Plus want to add after a couple months the odor just didn't seem to wash out. Its no biggy since its outside now and I just hose it off, but I can see how it may stink up a place. | |

| We have a Potty Patch on the balcony. Love it so I don't have to go downstairs. But the grass slips off so we had to clamp it down, the tray isn't deep, the sheet under the grass is sharp/poky, and it's a pitb to clean..so it gets yucky.

| I am having some fake grass put in the back yard for my pups and got a few 1 foot squares from the owner when he came out to price the project. I put them on top of a potty pad in the back yard. The pee barely goes thru (they are little and tiny potties right now). Seems to work well. The squares are very durable and can be hosed off easily with the yard hose or even in the bathtub. The potty pad (which is in the plastic holder I got from Amazon) is easy to just throw away. I have not had any issues with odor. |

| We had the Potty Patch and UgoDog on our balcony with a doggy door (before we moved). Ivan liked the Ugo for peeing and the Potty Patch for pooping so we just kept both. He will only use them when he's pretty desperate and prefers to go on walks. Iris will use either but prefers the Potty Patch. Overall, we liked them, especially in the rain or late at night. With either one, we use a pee pad in the tray for easy clean up. The size of the tray has never been a problem. It holds more than you'd think. But the pee pad to absorb everything really helps. We had a larger, more expensive version of the Potty Patch for a while, called a Porch Potty. We didn't like that as it was too hard to clean because it was so big. They loved to lay on that one. The grass ones do get stinky and need to be cleaned often and have the grass replaced when cleaning won't get the stink out. We found that daily spraying with an enzyme cleaner helped to keep it fresher between cleanings. It was fine outdoors but I would not want it for inside because of the smell. The other drawback that we noticed is that their paws pick up the smell when they use it (pee feet, yuck!). I really like the UgoDog best. It's much easier to keep clean and the smell does not build up. If you can train the pup to use it, I think it's the best we tried. |

| I ended up going with the UGODOG system. It seems to be the best choice for us. Pita is a pad shredder so I was worried that she would end up tearing up the grass. The UGODOG seems to be easier for me to clean. She has only had it for 2 days and has already taken to it...she has peed on it twice and pooped on it twice. I think we made a good choice. Thank you all for the great input, it was all very helpful! |

| I wanted to try it, but the idea of the clean up process turns me off.

| It sounds liked the clean up is a pain in the A. If it becomes necessary I might try a litter box further down the road |

| So I decided to try the potty patch but didn't want to pay for it since I just bought a 200 pack of puppy pads and the litter box. So I made one instead. I bought fake grass and plastic egg crate at the hardware store. I cut it down to the size of the litter box and zip tied the grass to the egg crate. I used a drill to make a bunch of holes in the grass so it would drain better. I put it in the litter box with puppy pads underneath and she used it right away. She hasn't pooped in it yet which will be the big test but I have a good feeling about it. Overall I spent as much as it would have cost to buy the potty patch but I have a whole lot of spare fake grass and egg crate to make replacements. And I like the idea of the taller sides of the litter box compared to the potty patch. Last edited by cdra; 08-17-2011 at 09:56 PM. |
