| Need advise: Miley is training me I need some pointers ....Miley is the first puppy I have had in almost eight years and combine that with menopause , well need I say more.I forget what I should do! First she is 4 1/2 months old and very much an alpha female. She bites me everytime I brush, bath or do her a little top knot. Today she growled and then bit rather hard when I was trying to do her hair. I kept doing it, told her no and carried on.She wiggled and wormed and growled and bit me the entire time. She is the 5th yorkie I have had in my lifetime and can I say the most dominent. She has a fighting pitbull attitude with anything she doesnt want to do. I dont back down and let her win of course but she is not getting any better. Would a petsmart doggy class help us. I bought a puppia harness, she wiggled in it to the point of being stuck and I had to cut it off. I now just bought another body harness, put in on snuggly with a finger width between, 5 mins later out of the body part. She is sooooo determined. Help.......

| Sounds like you have got your hands full. First congrats on your baby. Secondly, as you said, she thinks she is alpha, you need to teach her that you are alpha. When she bites at you, I would sternly say, No and make sure that she stops the action and put her on a time out of a few seconds. Let her know that the behavior is unacceptable and that you will not let her do it. You can also try treating and praising when she does not act agressively towards you when you do what ever it is you are trying to do--for example, putting her topknot in. Thirdly -make it fun when you put her harness on. Treat her when you put it on so she's seeing it as a good thing. Once she gets used to it, try putting it on her with lots of treats and praise. Take it off after a few seconds or minutes with treats and praise. Do this several times and I bet before you know it, it is a non issue. As for the treats, I would give her something that she is crazy over and use them only for training. Good luck.

| Oh thankyou for those great ideas! She is crazy about her treat so that should work. I cannot believe how determined she is. She will fight to the bitter end! LOl. Today she is going to my groomer/great friend of her breeder,so I will see how she makes out with the grooming thing..... She can be the sweetest most lovable baby girl when she's tired hehehe .I lover her and her spunk. Thanks again for the great advise!

| Aww yay you got her! Please post pictures of her!! Can't wait to see! Teddy used to bite, wiggle and squirm everytime I brushed him. Especially when I was tried to clean up around his face (still doesn't like that very much). So I started brushing him when he was occupied with his bully stick and now he relates the two. brushing time = bully stick time. He sits right on my lap and doesn't mind being brushed at all anymore. With respect to bathing him....he also used to crawl up my arms/chest during bath time) to the point I acutally had my bf sit in the bathtub with him and hold him while I bathed him. BUT after going to the groomers twice...T is a new man! He doesn't mind being bathed at all. In fact our groomers told us...Teddy is one of the easiest yorkies they have groomed because he loves the attention...shocking So hopefully your groomer gets her adjusted to the grooming. Also, with the harness Mom to Hot Rod's answer is perfect! We made it fun for Teddy because he related the harness with going for walks outside. And lastly, treats and praise always work! Good luck with your little girl!

Yes she is a bum, she is full of spunk and yet she is a real doll. I just adore her.My groomer is very good and we are just leaving to go see her for some tips! She's got over 30 yrs experience with these little monkeys. Actually she not that little...she's almost 4 1/2 months and she weigh 4 lbs. She controls or should I say tries to control our house LOL!
