| not happy with puppy behavior Drake has been doing well with using pee pads or so I thought as they are always used, but I went to straighten his pen that has his bed in it and he has also been peeing inside it. There is no pad in there and it is never zipped shut so he can come and go from it. I have removed his bed and have the pen zipped shut til I can find a product to remove the pee smell from the fabric. He is so hyper and just totally ignores all command at the no word, this evening he was acting too wild so I went to put him back in his room so I would not trip over him while doing my stuff and he attempted to act semi aggressive towards me...I ended up holding him down on the floor til he calmed down. I am seriously considering taking him to some private training sessions. For now we will try the time outs in his room til he hopefully gets the hint. My last yorkie was female and a little older when I go her, she was in no way bullheaded like this little guy seems to be. He needs to have his eyes washed again and fighting with him is no easy task. |

| Keep in mind that he is only 11 weeks old and full of energy. Now is the time to start obedience training, but be patient. In addition to saying "no," redirect him to a correct behavior. Get him to play with a toy for instance. Make sure he has enough exercise and a good schedule for basic activities during the day. If you do things at about the same time each day, your pup will naturally fall into the routine. Puppies get zoomies a lot. They zoom around the room and may bark and appear to act aggressive. More often than not, the behavior is actually playful. Stay calm and don't show any excitement or frustration. Any negative energy will just fuel his excitement and get him going more. When Max would do this, I would very lightheartedly say, "Oh, my feisty boy." Being gentle and nonchalant is completely disarming. I would recommend not holding him down. You can calm him down faster and in a much less stressful way by sitting motionless on the floor. Don't move a muscle until he calms and comes to you. When he does, gently say, "good boy" and give him a small treat. I promise this exercise will train him to calm down and come to you. You can then introduce command phrases and words, "settle down" or "come" and "sit." You can also ignore him when he is acting out. Withdrawing attention is very effective.

Patience is very important with puppies. Its okay to give short time outs if their behavior warrants it- however, they do need plenty of opportunity to be "crazy" and get all their energy out- if they are cooped up too much it will only make it worse. You can't expect an 11 week old to be potty trained- everything that is in there pen with them should be 100% washable- plastic or metal crates, blankets, etc.

I always enjoyed puppy zoomies, especially because Max would collapse onto my lap when he was finished and turn into the sweetest little cuddle bug.

| it takes time for the puppy to get paper trained! coco has her hits & misses.... but those misses are often my fault. i take her to pee and she doesn't for 10 mins then i take her out and play with her and 3 mins later she squats then i rush her to the pad. it might also help if you try not to train too many things. right now coco's working on learning her name, paper training & leash walking this week.

| Please keep in mind that 11 weeeks is terribly terribly young. I would not expect too much from such a young pup. If he has alot of pent up energy, be sure he is getting plenty of play and exercise time. Some dogs are easier to train than others but if you are having issues, I always think gettting a professional involved is a good idea and why not now when you can nip a behavior off before it really becomes an issue and an ingrained habit? |
