| Peeing outside of kennel while inside the kennel Loki (almost 6 months) has been having this little problem for a few weeks now. Since he was about 11 weeks we let him have the run of our kitchen. About a month ago we decided to start kenneling him again because I would return home to a room littered with pee pad fragments. When he began pooing the backing to the pee pad we knew it was time to kennel again. He did quite well for the first few days, no pottying in the kennel (we sectioned it off). Then the third or fourth day he started peeing...just outside of the kennel onto the floor. Now I put a peepad in front of it so that he can't pee on the floor. Would this be considered condoning his behavior? I am starting to run out of paper towels and Nature's Miracle. I have put a blanket on the top of the kennel so that it is more "den" like for him and he doesn't pee on any other side but the front. I just don't get it. When he gets out of the kennel he will pee for me on the pad no problem. And I know he does it soon after I leave because it is dry on the pad when I get home. He will go potty for me about 15 minutes before I leave, so I am not sure if he is just doing it to be defiant either. Any advice? Also...he likes to bang his dishes together when he is eating...spilling his entire bowl of water....any suggestions on that either? I seems like it is neverending with this little guy...what he doesn't think of now, I know will be coming down the road eventually!!! But I love him and he is great! |

| How much time does Loki spend in his kennel without a potty break? It could be that the time period is simply too long. These little ones have little bladders and need to go often. You could try going back to letting him have the kitchen with a piddle pad. Put the pad in a frame or something to hold it down. Some people have great success by switching to washables. I have always used disposables, and I did go through a period with Max where he shredded the pads. He eventually outgrew the habit. When you are home and supervising Loki, be sure to praise him profusely when he goes potty in the correct place. Putting the pad in front of his kennel door is undoubtedly encouraging him to pee through the door. For the problem with the bowls, move the water bowl farther away from the food bowl. You may also want to consider using bowls with the rubber on the bottom that prevent slipping and sliding. Good luck!

| Hi, I no suggestions sorry, but mind is doing the same thing. I have one of those frames for pee pads, and he still rips the pads up. I am glad to hear that they out grow that. Bailey used to dump his water out of bowl until I got bowls with rubber on it so it can not slide or dump it. Good luck if you find a solution i would love to know how to stop the pee pad thing. Thank you, Beege |

| He pees when he first goes into the kennel after I leave, the pad is always dry when I come home. But he is in there around 9 hours. We immediately go for a walk when I get home and he has been pottying outside now. We have had the pad holder and he will rip the pad right out of it and won't go potty on it. So we took it back. I hope he grows out of it....the messes are not fun to pick up! Our bowls have the rubber on the bottom but I think he pushes it with his nose and then it runs into the wall. Water goes everywhere! Love him...but hate his habits! |
