| HELP! Crate training, after pad training Hi everyone! Boy am I glad I stumbled across this forum! I am a new yorkie mommy. I purchased Tiny Freddy on Feb 11th. He is a BEAUTIFUL blue/gold Yorkie. He was semi-pad trained when I bought him so I continued the pad training. Now, I want to crate train him. He was born October 23rd, so he's going on his 5th month. Today was the first day. I am trying to be optimistic here. I need serious Yorkie expert advice. So far, I have brought him outside 2 times. He hates it outside. I live in CT so it's about 45-50 degrees today. He shivers and HATES it outside. He comes in and has three pee-pee accidents! The last one was a lot of pee pee so I know he's holding it. Before, with the pad, he was "piddling" small amounts all day! Will he EVER go pee and poo outside? I will take any and all advice! Thanks in advance! Nichole Bethlehem, CT |

| Hi Welcome to YT Yorkies don't have a double coat, so they get cold..there hair grows like yours and mine I would put a doggie coat or sweater on him before going out. I would confine him...after you take him outside and he doesn't go...put him back in his crate for 10 to 20 minutes and try again until he does his bussiness...if he does his bussiness throw a potty party for him letting him know its ok to potty outside, than and only than would I let him stay out to play with me having an eagles eye on him at all times...I have a 5 1/2 month old Harley ...I keep him confined in a doggie play yard when I can't watch him...I don't let him have full run of the house, I take him out every 3 to 4 hours...first thing in the mornings, after he eats, after he plays, and after drinking water. I'm very consistent with it and now he lets me know when he has to go out...hope this helps...good luck!

| Thank you for the advice! Tiny spent virtually all day in his crate! It is incredibly stressful for him and me. BUT! i made a breakthrough! I was taking Tiny to his puppy pad in our garage, because the vet said that was fine - it is outside, and during the cold weather - as long as Tiny learns to go outside the living space. Well - Tiny WOULD NOT go! UNTIL - I set up his Xpen (that he was used to) around two puppy pads. I put him in it, and immediately he went pee-pee!!! YEAH! I don't care that he's used to the Xpen. as long as he's learning to go outside - I'M PSYCHED! Nichole |
