| Invisible fence anyone ?? I'm hoping someone can help me with this question. I have a large yard and only 2 neighbors. So, I want the girls to be able to go in the front yard without me having to walk them with their harnesses. I've been looking at the Invisible fence and was wondering if anyone has ever installed one and if they work or not. I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions. We live far enough away from the road that I don't worry about them getting hit by a car. I just want a large space in front without having to fence my yard. Thanks in advance for your help. |

| I would opt for a "harness" vs. a SHOCK anytime for my girls! This would never be an option for any animal of mine.

| That's what I've always said myself. My husband is really pushing to look at something to keep them in front. I've been told it's not a true shock, but like static...I knew I could ask on Yorkie Talk and get some help with this. |

| It is still a shock... When my daughter and her husband contemplated a barrier such as that, she was against it and her husband was for it...until she made him wear the collar and zapped him a few times...case closed & a secure fence was installed! Sounds like you are out in a rural area? If so, I would still opt for a Harness as the threat of wildlife entering your property would still be a threat not worth taking. I live in a residential neighborhood but, it is on the outskirts of a rural area...thus, we have the threat of visiting "coyotes" and lurking "hawks" always on the hunt. It's just not a chance I would take with my Yorkies.

| Keep in mind that an invisible fence does not protect against predators. Just last week a small chihuahua was killed in my town when 2 larger roaming dogs entered his yard. Also keep in mind that some dogs will quickly figure out that the shock is fleeting and that they can easily get outside the designated area. Often the dog will not risk the shock to return to the yard. Dog trainer Victoria Stilwell has said on her show that invisible fences have been proved to cause health problems.

| I would never have an invisible fence...it will keep your dog in while anything else is free to step inside your yard and do whatever they want...in a bad situation your little dog could be trapped. It also will not keep people from entering your yard and taking your dog. |

| Thank you all very much for bringing out some of the same points I have brought to my husbands attention. I'll be fencing in my whole back yard. I've asked him for the past 4 years, always the same answer. At least I'll be able to keep all the other animals out of our yard ( except for the chicken hawks ) that wonder through the neighborhood. We have a leash law that some just refuse to obey. We love our girls and would never do anything to hurt them. So a fence seems like the safest way to do that |

| I agree, it may keep them in, but it won't keep other outs. And by the way, the shocks do hurt! I know from personal experience! |

| You will be so happy you are fencing your yard. So much peace of mind; easy to let them in and out. I really don't think you or your husband will be sorry about your decision.
