| My Mean Little Furbaby Hello Everyone, Pepper is a 15 month old male, neutered yorkie. He is very attached to me and does not socialize well with others. I've had him since he was 12 wks old and the older he gets, the more aggressive he becomes. He barks and growls at strangers, children, and other dogs. He gets so angry that he will attempt to bite them and even snap at me in the process! He is the sweetest little furbaby and follows me everywhere! He even sleeps with us in bed. My DH says I've spoiled him rotten. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! Pepper's Mom |

| You must get this under control because you don't want to be responsible for him biting someone. I suggest you start with obedience training; or perhaps seek out a private trainer. Something you can try at home is NILF - Nothing in Life for Free. This is a very gentle way of letting your yorkie know that you are the leader. They must sit before feeding, treats, before going out the door . . it could be a good place to start. Nothing in life is free - NILF - dog training - Article on Pets.ca | Pets.ca Keep your dog active and exercised; walk him daily and get him used to being around other people. I'm sure others will chime in. Best of Luck.

| Yes I agree obedience training would be good also teaching tricks. Also try to walk him every day so he gets used to new circumstances and people

Senior Yorkie Talker | Bentley was really bad about growling and barking at dogs and strangers. Even leaves that rolled across the street. Our trainer told us to turn and walk away when he does that because barking is his reward. Once I started doing this and getting him out and about more it quickly got much better. He is almost 10 months. He is still learning but has come so far. He was ferocious before. Nipping and barking at dogs 100 pounds heavier than him. Right now, he is quietly sleeping in his bag next to me while I am getting a pedicure. He now knows that not being nice will get him left at home. I hope I helped a little. Its so funny that they think they are so big and bad and then at home are cuddly as can be. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | Wow! Princess Chloe has been with us now for 8 days and she's starting to demonstrate some of the aggresiveness mentioned here. I think I've been spoiling her too much. I've tried to go easy on her since she's just been with us a short while, until she gets accostume to her new surroundings. I just read "Dogs-Nothing In Life Is Free" and will start putting some of the advise into practice today. We have fallen in love with our new furbaby, and if obedience trainning is what she needs well I guess we will both have to go as soon as possible. Wish us luck! Naomi |

Senior Yorkie Talker | Thank you Ringo1 for your reply. We signed her up yesterday for Puppy trainning 101, last night was her first night. There were two other puppies in the class, a 3 mth lab and another small dog, of course much larger than Princess. She did well for her first night getting to know the other dogs and barked and stood her ground when the other dogs bothered her. I learned a few things I didn't know about dog behaviour which I'm starting today to practice. Wish us luck! |

YT Addict | I can tell you that the advice here is right on spot! Teddi was beginning this behavior however not with others but with me! Since he has been going to puppy classes his little personality has really come into it's own. He is still big and bad during play time but is loving and sweet the rest! Puppy classes definitely work! (For everyone!)
