| Toilet Paper Eater! Stomper is almost 1 years old. We still can't leave the toilet paper on the roll or he drags it all around the house. What can I do to teach him not to do this? Will he grow out of it?

Mollie never did that, but now Wyatt is a different story of course he is only 3 1/2 months old. I have quit putting the paper on the roll I just leave it on the back of the toilet. I hope that they outgrow it.

| Toilet paper Yep, Sweetie got the toilet paper too. It was funny, she had the paper pulled-out, down the hall and in to the living room. What a mass! She was just a pup and wanted my attention, has not do it since.

| Miko loves paper too! We used to never be able to keep the TP on the roll because he would drag it all over the house. Now he doesn't do it quite as often but we can't leave paper laying around because he'll shred it. Hehe |

| I'm not keen on using aversives, but if you're really aggravated, here's a tip that I read. First, you have to condition your dog that a certain smell is associated with bad things. You want to choose a smell that YOU like, for instance vanilla. Put a touch of vanilla in a spray bottle of water. When you catch your dog chewing on the toilet paper (or engaging in another naughty behavior), spray him in the face with the scented water. Just a couple of repeats is supposed to be enough for them to learn to hate that smell. Then, all you have to do is put a drop or 2 of vanilla on the toiler paper to deter them. Might be easier just to move the tp! If you use this method, let us know how it works! |
