| she hates it! So I went out last night and got a temporary harness for Taylah since she is starting to wonder more and not listen and so forth.. Well, now we have ANOTHER problem! She hates it! she hates that she has to wear this thing, and even more that she is controlled on where she can and can't go (as in me having her on a leash). She hasn't done anything at all for me outside and its way past time for her to *poop* as I fed her around 7:30 AM!! Urgggggggg.... all she does is bite the leash, and play and play and not use the potty! Any tips? suggestions? advice? Told ya I have a determined terror! haha

| Tucker does the same thing..We have a huge privacy fenced back yard so I usually don't have to put a leash on him, but when we go for a walk he tried to fight me at first.. I just pull up on the leash when he is biting at it and tell him No! I usually have to do this about 2-3 times and he will stop. Also, he will stop and lay on his back to bite the leash so I just make him get up by walking away and telling him to come. He has no choice but to follow me and then he forgets about what he was doing and will eventually do his buisness. Sometimes it takes us 20 minutes before he will do anything... |

When i started with the harness she hated it. I would put it on her like 5 times a day for a half hour each time. She eventually got used to it. When i put her on the leash she would either sit and not move or twist around and pull like i was torturing her. i would pull up on the leash so she had no room to act out and walk so she had to walk with me. Eventually i would give her more and more slack and eventually she caught on.

| Jenn, This sounds like normal behavior when exposed to a harness for the first time (or a collar, or a leash, etc). I'd put the harness on her without the leash and give treats like crazy! Feed her in it. Let her know that good things come when in the harness. I wouldn't try attaching the leash to the harness until she was comfortable with the harness alone. Good luck! |

| Oh, and if you are trying to get her to go potty on a leash for the first time, I found that using one of the longer, retractable leashes worked better. Joey pretty much refuses to potty on one of the shorter leashes (he's not used to "going" while on a leash - which isn't necessarily a bad thing, IMO). He will go on a longer leash, though, if he really needs to! |

| When I first put the harness on Sabrina, she froze and refused to do anything. I just left it on her and walked off and she stayed in it all day. Now, she sees the harness and knows it's "outside" and she can't wait. It just takes time, and don't give in. I also went where she wanted to go at first. By letting her lead, she got used to the different pull on it. Hope this helps.

| Both of mine did this when I first put it on them. It took them awhile to get use to it. |

| As with everyone one else Harley was a real pain in the behind too the first time I tried walking him with his harness. Actually he flipped out the second I set him down with just the harness on. And when we'd try walking him he'd grab the leash in his mouth and walk backwards while yanking on the leash as if to say "Ha ha momma! Now who's walking who!?!?" lol Just keep practicing and things will improve!

| Thanks everyone. I think it just bugs her cause she's not the one in charge with it.. haha and she's not the boss. Im being consistant and letting her lead herself and I make her stay outside til she does potty.. so she knows that's what its for! She still fusses, but is getting a bit better about it!

| Wow, I just came here to post the same question. Sadie doesn't really like the harness very much, but she hates the leash even more. She just won't budge when I have the leash on her. I had my yellow lab on her leash and I put the leash on Sadie, and she could have cared less that Maddie had the leash on and was walking. So I guess I will keep working on her. I do remember having problems with Maddie at first too. But later I had the problems of Maddie pulling really hard. Unfortunately, I haven't been walking Maddie as much as I should and she is pulling pretty badly again. Guess we all need to get into shape and walk. Thanks everyone! |
