| Need advice with walking Need help with leash training. I have Madison trained with drop it, lay down, sit, stay (still working on this one, but she's doing pretty good). When we go for a walk, she listens to NOTHING I say!!! I have taken treats along, she doesn't care, she is food motivated, but when she is excited she could care less. When she starts pulling I stop and she will sit there like a good girl, as soon as I start to move she starts pulling again. I will turn and go the other way, she does not seem to care and just starts charging forward, so the back and forth thing doesn't work either. I let her out in our fenced in yard for a few minutes to run around and get rid of some energy before walks. I just don't know what else to do. I really dislike taking her for walks, that I don't do it much anymore. Any suggestions? Thanks!!

| Check out this thread for some ideas: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/tra...h-pulling.html I used the method described by Chattiesmom and Quicksilver to cure Maximo of pulling. Instead of just changing direction whenever he started pulling, I made him follow me in all kinds of crazy patterns. We don't have sidewalks, so this was easy to do on our quiet street where we usually walk. I moved in crazy-eight patterns, crisscrossing the street, moving forward and backward. Max had no choice but to follow and focus on me. For your other training, try a new reward and reserve that reward only for this specific type of training. When I introduced fresh chicken, Maximo went nuts. Once you have established the ability to follow commands outside, give the reward only intermittently. Hope some of this helps. |

| What kind of harness or collar are you using? Have tried the kind that hook in the front? They can't pull you with those. |

| And-----when you stop and she stops, throw a treat way behind you. She will go back to get the treat, you start walking and she has to catch up. Keep this up and eventually she will always be following you. Might take awhile to be patient. Our Cooper was a real puller until we went to training class. Now he is an excellent walker. When in training, every time he walked right beside us and looked at us he got a small training treat. he soon figured that was the only way to get rewarded. |
