| doggy doors Hi, We have a 4 month, 2.5 pound yorkie who has potty trained very quickly. She goes to the door now to be let out but we can't always be right there to let her out and leaving the door open is not an option. We installed a doggy door which she only wants to use half the time for some reason. Does anyone have any advice on doggy door training? Thanks! |

| Give her lots of treats every time she enters and exits...she will get it She may be scared of the flap on the dog door.

| Doggy Door My oldest baby picked it up quickly at about 6 or 7 months. I left the flap off for about one to two weeks then put it on. She wanted so desperately to follow me, she just started using it. Now my newest baby, who is now 6 months had a longer time trying to figure it out. I did the same thing and put the flap up for almost two weeks, then put it down. I tried to get her to use it, but she was afraid of the clicking of the magnet at the bottom. If I put her nose up to the doggy door, she would push it and go out, but not without me putting her there. After a week of putting her nose to go in and out, I just went outside with my oldest, and she barked for about a minute, then went out. To this day, she doesn't have a problem. She has been using it without any assistance for about two weeks now. My neighbor's yorkie will not go out a doggy door though unless you tape the magnet down. Good luck. I'm sure your baby will get it in time. |

| When I brought home my two Kerry Blue Terriers, it took the mom Shannon (4yo) 2 days - and the son Riley (18 mo) 2 MONTHS (with ALL kinds of incentives) to use the doggy door. Dogs vary, but if you're consistent, they'll get it. Our Dante (Biewer Yorkie, now 16 weeks, 3 1/2 pounds), still hasn't gone through on his own... but I know that with the incentive of following the big dogs, he will eventually. |
