Need Your Help - 8wk'r nipping, biting, mouthing Hi everyone! I recently took Rocky home at exactly 8 weeks and 1 day. He has been weaned off his Mama's milk enough to completely be on dry food now. Also, he was born in a litter of 2, and unfortunately his sister (the 2nd of the litter) did not make it =( After being mostly alone in the pen, he is now having trouble with knowing what's ok and NOT ok to chew (fingers, toes, ankles, thighs, etc). So far, we've started to "Yip!" loudly and high enough to alarm him, and this works 40% of the time. At times, we'll yip then ignore or re-direct him to a toy that is ok to chew. Your input is definitely welcomed! As a first time dog owner, I am taking any/all suggestions! Not sure if this link will work, but here's a little preview of my little one! Smilebox Playback

Welcome to YT and congratulations for your new pup Rocky. He is a cutie! You are definitely at a disadvantage having him at 8 weeks instead of 12. Keep doing what you are doing and check out this "stickie" at the top of this forum: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/tra...nhibition.html

My yorkie Sadie did the same thing- although she was about 14 weeks when we got her. As long as your puppy was with his mom, she should have taught him how to play- We had a big problem with biting though and at first it was cute, but then it started to really hurt and get very frustrating. What we did was got some puppy toys that are made for teething, especially the ones that you can get wet and freeze so it feels good on the gums/teeth. You can start by redirecting the puppies attention and when he bites the wrong thing say " no" or " ouch" really loud so that he realizes it hurts you. Always have chew toys available for your puppy. Hope this helps!
