im at a loss please help. Ok first i should say im not a fan of barking, when i got my 2 yorkies 6 years ago they learned no barking before potty and they listened, they learned when it was ok to bark and when its wasnt ok to bark when doorbell rings not ok 2 bark at a leaf falling, they both did great i would say no barking when we would approach other walkers with or without dogs many people would stop and say how did u do that, they were so good 99% of the time could never teach them the dominos pizza del ring on tv was the tv but i figured it was futule,, ok now my one dog fife needed to be pts a few weeks ago,, i decided to rescue a 2 year old yorkie who is a great but wasnt fixed and needs a dental he pretty much hated the vet today but what can i do.. he is so quiet when im with him took him 3 days to bark at all.. then i left him home alone with shaffer my other dog,, he barked the entire time how can i tell him no barking if im not home,, i sat outside the door so he could see me he was fine until he couldnt see me anymore, shaffer didnt bark one time any thoughts would be helpful

I'm sorry about Fife. What is your new rescue dog's name? Try draining some of energy before leave the house with either a walk, some running around in the yard, or a play session. Give him a little comforting and calming massage. Try leaving a radio or television on for distraction. I bought a CD of relaxing music called "Through a Dog's Ear" this week and it put my boys to sleep. It's available at Borders and Amazon. Try teaching your new dog key words and phrases to associate with your departure, like "I'll be back." Do some training where you depart for only a couple minutes the first time and return. Gradually increase the amount of time you are gone before returning. Be causal, happy, and confident on departure and return. Make him think it is no big deal. Make sure your new boy has plenty of safe toys and maybe some hidden treats while you are gone. Hope some of these ideas help,

Cooper sounds like a sweetie! Bless you for giving him a loving home. The shirt you have worn is a great idea. Keep giving him loving, structure & schedule, and I believe he will learn that he doesn't need to be anxious about you leaving the house.

Watching the interaction of two getting to know each other is fascinating, isn't it? My older boy Max behaved like your Shaffer when I brought his 8-month old brother Teddy home. Teddy would love to curl up with Max, but Max won't have it. They come close to it now.
