| Well sit and lay down are the easiest and most common tricks to teach your dog. I'm no expert but when i taught Ruby how to "sit" the very first time, i had a treat in my hand and raised it a few inches above her nose while i said 'sit' at the same time. I helped her 'sit' the first few times by pushing a little on the top of her bum gently. She got it pretty fast. When i'd say 'sit' and she forgot i would tap my finger lightly on the top of her bum to remind her and she would sit right away. I would teach 'Lay Down' after 'Sit' because once they are sitting it's half way to laying down. When i taught Ruby to 'lay down' i pointed to the floor with a treat in my hand and said 'lay down' and gently layed her down at the same time. After doing that a few times she was a pro. Good luck! |

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | glad frankie did good with sit!! give him a few days and wait until he's really great at that. then you can start down. have him sit then take a treat and slide it on the floor in front of him while saying Down, lie down etc. of course. he could always end up like Tucker, he prefers to PLOP, lol! good luck!

| Start w/ basics...sit first, once they get that work on laying down, come to you and back. Most important keep commands simple and different from 1 another. If you choose to teach them "Lay Down" use a different command for "Stay" since stay and lay sound too similar. We teach "Down" and "Wait" to our dogs. "Back" is useful also, especially if you have a dog that likes to barge out the door when you open it. My now babies know basics and some special commands such as "Mind your Manners" when a guest comes over, they will get down off the couch and down/out of their faces until invited. I have taught my pets in the past w/ silent commands. This is easily done by incorporating a hand signal with your verbal commands, eventually they will get it. Just give lots of praise and work 10 min or so a night and your furbaby will get it, they are eager to please. In no time you'll be reaping the rewards of having a well mannered furbaby.

| it's unbelieveable that it would happen this fast but Frankie sat RIGHT down this morning i decided to train her early while she was hungry and really wanted the treats. it worked like a charm. i can't WAIT to try it tomorrow morning to make sure it wasn't a fluke. LOL |
