| Help with Potty Training This is my second thread on this potty training problem I'm having with Ellie. She has been peeing in her crate which seems to defeat the purpose of crate training. Today, she peed 3 times consecutively in her crate. It was literally consecutive because I would take her out, clean her up, and put her back in and she would do it again!! I'm trying to figure out what the problem might be, I don't know if its related to behavioral or maybe medical. I thought she might have a UTI but she doesn't seem to exhibit any sort of symptoms that might be causing the erratic peeing behavior. I don't know if she is upset and hates being in her kennel, she is spoiled and as much time as she does have to be in there, its not long enough to soil herself over and over. I really at my wits end. I would really appreciate anyone's help and advice. shes going to the vet in a couple days and I will ask the doc if she has a UTI. If i can't catch a sample (which I'm sure I can) how do they test for a UTI? Should I take her to the vet sooner then her next appt? It's may 1st. I would do anythign for her. Right now shes no longer in the kennel and I have her pet gate up in the bathroom since we don't have an xpen. I don't want her urinating on herself and causing bacteria to spread everywhere. |

| Well, I don't have any answers for you because mine does the exact same thing. We even sectioned the extra tiny crate off so she can only turn around and she still pees and poops in it. I am so afraid she will never be potty trained. I called the breeder and she wasn't helpful. I am at my wit's end because I don't know how to housebreak her when I am doing everything the books say to do. I think it really confuse the puppies because so many breeders leave them in a small space with their puppy pads and then we are trying to tell them they can't pee in "their" space. It really is too bad that more breeders don't teach them to go outside. If you find anything that works please let me know! |

| When Bailey was a puppy, she didn't pee in her crate - but she did pee in her expen and that was okay with me There's lots of theories on potty training. I used the crate, not to limit her space to keep from pottying, but it was somewhere to put her when she was not supervised in house. Bailey was only loose in the family room (with blankets on the floor) when she was supervised. Our goal was to allow her to make a potty mistake and then catch her in the act and take her outside. We repeated this over and over and over again until she caught on. Its a lot of work - but with supervision and consistency it can be done. Its very very important not to allow the lil one loose in the house unsupervised until potty trained. Good luck.
