| Peeing up the table leg Alfie has been crate trained from the day I got him, he was 10 weeks old exactly. Since that very first night he has never gone pee pee in his crate and can hold himself for up to 8hrs. He goes pee pee outside and is put out in the garden regularly and goes and is made a big fuss of for going outside. However, he still has the odd ocassion when he pees indoors and its usually when i take my eyes off him for one minute. When he did this he would squat but now he actually cocks his leg because i've seen it up the table leg! He is being neutured on 23rd of this month, 3 days after he is 6months. He also insists of humping the German Shepherds' tails. he isn't fussy whether its the male of the female and has been doing this literally from the moment we brought him home. he never tries our legs just the dogs' tails. Will the peeing up the table leg stop when he has been neutured? The vet said its just a behavioural thing, well actually it was the receptionist vet nurse but I assume she knows what she's talking about. any advice or comments greatly appreciated.

Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | it may and it may not....i would suggest getting a belly band and placing a pad inside in the event when he lifts his leg to mark inside the house it will soak up the urine...and take it off when he is outside to do his business...hope that helps!

| Alfie went into the garden and did a pee pee, watched by myself and my son. Alfie then came in and was sniffing so I said he needs to go out again, son reminded me he had literally just been. Guess what, yep he pees up the magazine rack, although it was just a dribble, if that. So is he just marking and why do they do that? We went for a walk in the forest earlier and Alfie was peeing up trees but not actually peeing, if that makes sense?

| I wouldn't wait another three weeks to have him neutered. I'd get it done now. The more the marking behavior is established, the less likely neutering will stop it. |

| I have to agree with Ladymom. I would try to get him in ASAP. Make sure that you are also cleaning the areas that he marks really well because he will continue to mark from the scent. I hope this helps. |

| Here in the UK vets wont neuter until a puppy is 6 months and Alfie is 6 months on the 20th March so he is having his op 23rd March. Believe me if I could get him done earlier I would.

| I'm using a disinfectant but not sure if it is actually getting rid of the smell.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Marking is a way that dogs make their presence known to other dogs, it's kind of like a dogs calling card, it tells other dogs who they are and if they are fertile. The hormone testosterone influences marking, and the testes make the bulk of testosterone, but the adrenal glands make a little as well. After removal of the testes, the testosterone is in the blood for about a month, so some dogs will continue to mark for a month after neutering. Other dogs in the house influence how much hormone is being produced.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Unlike feces, urine is relatively sterile, you don't need to use a disinfectant, but you should use something that gets rid of the protein in urine, that's what attracts the dog to return to the spot. Over here we have products such as Nature's Miracle, which contains enzymes, which get rid of the protein, look for a product that says it contains "enzymes." Enzymes are good bacteria that actually eat the protein found in urine. They take time to work, but are very effective, especially on soft surfaces, where the protein cannot be just wiped away.
