| 2 yr old peed on my bed! Hi, my yorkie Pixie is 22 months and paper trained (usually!). She sleeps with me in her blanket with a peepad under it. There has been no problem till now. But I discovered at bedtime she had peed on the duvet and sheets on my side the previous morning! (I made the mistake of letting her stay on the bed after I got up.) Obviously it was a mistake to let her sleep with me, but now I want to try to kennel train her at night. (She also gets up a lot at night now and is quite disruptive.) Any feedback if you've tried to do this with an older dog or suggestions? I don't think she has any urinary issues. Am I setting myself up for a very difficult task (I have people above me so can't afford to have her bark all night!)? Thx for the help! Hindsight is 20/20! Mignon & Pixie |

| Do you think she would use doggie stairs? My girls have always had access to doggie stairs, although....we have had accidents under 1 year old. I know they sometimes confuse an area rug for a pee pee pad, mybe she is confused with all the bedding?

| Doggie stairs are a good idea, but Pixie is able to jump off the bed--just can't climb up. But I am reluctant to continue with her on the bed if she will even think of doing something like this -- out of sheer laziness I guess! Mignon & Pixie |

| A ramp would let her get up and down but she could have gotten down to go pee on her own right then. My concern is whether she'd do it again, so I don't trust her. I want to kennel her at night and wonder how tough a battle you think I'll have! Mignon & Pixie |

| If she's allowed to pee on the bed on the pad she may have not known the difference. I would put the pee pad on the floor, get the steps and teach her how to go up and down. This way when she has to pee she will go down them a do her business and come back up on the bed. To crate train her now after allowing her to sleep with you may be hard. Allowing her to pee on the bed on a pad was where you made a mistake. I don't believe it's her fault she just needs to know to pee elsewhere. Good luck, |

| I put the pee pad under the blanket she is wrapped in at night as a safety measure but never planned on her actually peeing on the bed! But it could have confused her. Yorkies seem to pee/poop wherever they happen to be sometimes even tho they know it is not the place to go--or is this only mine! I hate the thought of trying to kennel train her now. Do you think was a one-time incident or is she likely to pee on the bed again? Mignon & Pixie |

| You won't know hun unless you try it.... you will have a good few nights of disturbed sleep, but what have you got to loose...explain to your neighbour what you are trying to do and hopefully she will understand when your munchkin keeps you all up through the night....but I am sure it will get better....good luck |

| I think you are right re explaining to my neighbours and trying to kennel her at night. There isn't anything to lose (except sleep!) and things have to change! Does anyone else find their Yorkie unpredictable in their "bathroom" habits?........housetrained but still has regular accidents? Mignon & Pixie |

| If you feel comfortable with it, take water bowl away after a certain time in the evening say 7pm. They only have little tums as you know, so the more they drink the more they pee...bless em... |

| Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. With a Yorkie you always seem to be working on housetraining accidents -- at least Pixie! Mignon & Pixie |

| I can sympathize with you. Teddy, who is 15 months old, just the other day did not feel like getting down his little stairs to go pee on his pad so he took a wiz on the bed!! Then he looked at me like "whatever, mom" Barney and Daisy always used their little stairs to go up and down to their pad and they never leak on the bed. I think the little ones just need to keep being reminded of where the bathroom is. They just think the whole world is their toilet. Good luck!

I guess she isn't housetrained. I think dogs do better if trained to only go outside. Mignon & Pixie | |

| My Myah, is just over 2 and is totally house trained. She goes outside. She was also crate trained and gets to sleep with me on weekends but is in her crate at night during the week. She has never peed or pooped on my bed. I think you may be confusing her by having the pee pad on the bed. I personally don't like the pad training...seems that most people that do it that way, it takes them longer to be totally trained. Maybe I got lucky, but all my dogs were crate trained and were totally trained by the time they were 1. I hope you figure out a solution. |
