| You don't want to give her the idea that it's OK to potty where she sleeps. Honestly the best thing to do (if you can) is to get an exercise pen to put her in when you're away, and put piddle pads inside the pen. If she doesn't have a crate you should really invest in one, as Yorkies need their own space, especially being so small, where they can escape to. Put her bed inside the crate along with her food and water bowl, and she won't potty in there. This is an excellent way to train her. When you leave her alone, put her crate inside of the ex pen, and when she has to potty, she'll come out of the pen and piddle on the pads (hopefully!). Hope this helps!

| We use a play pen too. Bristol only potties on her potty pad on the other side of the pen-never in her bed. We also have potty pads set out for when she isn't in her play pen and she uses those too. I thought the play pen would be similar to an x-pen? With Gracie we did the same thing but she also had her little kennel in the play pen. Bristol has something similar to a nap sack that she sleeps in in one corner of the play pen. |

I did exactly what are you doing -- xpen with pad on one side and bed on the other. The only problem I encountered was my pup shredding the pad when I left him alone. I started taking the pad away when he was alone and he never went potty when the pad wasn't there. He also won't do "big business" unless I am right there to take care of it immediately, which I appreciate! Make sure Chanel always has easy access to her pad and she will likely do very well. | |
